I'd assume.

Worse case scenario. They get picked for the NC game 14 days from now and then Winston gets a felony charge indictment and FSU has to suspend him per their institution rules. 04-jawdrop

That would be like NIU playing without Lynch.

No it wouldn't. Florida State likely has another 7-10 starters who will see NFL time at some point. FSU would still likely win the ACC without Winston...they just probably wouldnt' do it in the fashion they have and probably can't win the NC without him.

If you think FSU would suspend Winston for anything less than a video of him committing premeditated murder, I have a a beach to to sell you in DeKalb.

If you take away Lynch, NIU probably goes 8-4 or 7-5.

You take away Winston, FSU is likely still 12-0, maybe 11-1. Their defense is sick and they've blown out essentially every team.

Jordan Lynch is the MVP of college football because he is so valuable to his team. He's not nearly as good as some other QB's, but in terms of value he is likely #1.

I think FSU's back up QB is out for the season...they'd be hurt big time without Winston.

This is where I'm coming from.

Their backup might be a MAC-caliber QB, but not named Lynch.

I believe most schools (I think FSU, too, but not sure if I heard it correctly on a sports show) if a student-athlete is indicted on a felony he/she is automatically off the team. Period. Automatic.

Point being, look at their defense. FSU is #2 in the nation in defense, and yes, #2 in offense. Even if their offense was #50, they would still beat teams comfortably. I understand a good offense helps the defense, and vice versa, but they have ANNIHILATED every team outside of BC. FSU could have 75% of the starting QB's in the country and would still likely be 11-1 at worst.

I guess this question depends on what you're asking. Record wise, they would be the same. They allow 11 points per game. A crappy QB isn't going to a change a 51-14 win over #3 Clemson, a 63-0 win over #25 Maryland, nor a 41-14 win over #7 Miami. The games would be closer but the outcome would not be different. If you're asking as a team? Sure, Winston is a beast and FSU would get throttled by Alabama without him, most likely.

I don't think so. NIU has 2 capable backups, next year 3. I doubt they would be undefeated but no way they have 5 losses. Lynch is a stud but he has quality players around him.

I don't really want to argue a hypothetical, however.

- You think a backup runs for 316 yards against CMU?
- Keeps them in the game against BSU which was tied with 5 mins to go?
- Rallies them back from down 21-0 to beat EIU by 4?
- Beats Iowa?
- Wins by a TD against Akron?
- Keeps them at pace with Idaho by having 5 TD and 300+ yards? (maybe, Idaho does suck).

This isn't a knock on NIU, it's a testament to show how good Lynch is. I'm just saying, there is no way they beat Iowa. Unlikely beat EIU and BSU (please ignore the final score, game was even the whole way). The CMU game would be close because Lynch ran for 316 freaking yards. I think it's safe to say they have AT LEAST 3 losses. Don't act like 5 losses is crazy.

The last two sentences are exactly what my post was about:

FSU gets selected for the national championship game and they end up playing what a 3rd string QB and get throttled by 'Bame...

I was describing a possible scenario which would be upsetting to FSU fans and others.

A MAC caliber QB on FSU still likely wins 7 conference games with FSU...they are that much ahead of the rest of the league (sans Clemson) from a talent perspective.

Descending instantly into name-calling and tart little comebacks is not the best way to continue your passive-aggressive anti-NIU campaign.

I get that you are angry and passionate and you can feel like you're drowning in the NIU-isms sometimes, but you hold some odd retrograde anti-NIU opinions.

The only reason you feel that way is because I call it like I see from an outsiders perspective. You NIU fans only get your opinion vs. Fresno's.

"Fresno is overrated, they almost lost to some bad teams."
- Right, because NIU hasn't won any very close games either....

"We would easily beat Fresno."
- It would be a close game. Any realistic fan sees that outside of some (not all) delusional NIU fans.

"The BCS hates us, so do voters."
- That must be why NIU is in a position to go to 2 straight BCS games.

It's stuff like this that makes fans angry. I'm not anti-NIU at all. I root for the MAC being a CMU alum. I want NIU to bust the BCS and get more money from the conference. More importantly, gain respect. Face it, most of you NIU guys just cannot accept an outsiders opinion. I'm not trolling. Am I jealous? Yeah, who wouldn't be? I wish CMU was in that spot. That doesn't mean I can't have an opinion, or that my opinion is purely hatred toward NIU. I am rooting for them for crying out loud.

If I pick NIU to lose a game, everyone freaks out and acts like it's sacrilege. Deal with my opinion.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe NIU had a 2 win season not too long ago. Not all NIU fans, but many are acting like they are too good for the MAC. Get over yourself. They've had many close MAC games recently. Let's not act like they are blowing our every MAC team. Many fans have called you guys out, it's not just me.
