Rumored price tag for this is1.2 mill.
I'll have to disagree with you 100%on this. It is part of the reason we are in the shape we are in today. Scheduling whore games takes the hard work out of building a solid program, and all it does is guarantee you a loss and a free pass to the next year, where it all starts again. If we continue with this philosophy just to get by, you have seen the best of USM football in the past, and we will forever be a whipping boy for top level AQ teams. Very small time thinking.
Disagree nasty... In recent years (not counting the last two) when we put some big name teams on there, we a) drew recruits, we b) drew attention, we c) got paid.
And we did it with a schedule of Alcorn's, MVSU's, Jackson states, etc in there to try to get the win totals up.
Hell, when we played Penn State and Nebraska those were "pay off" games, and it got us some attention. Admittedly, we've got to get off the schnozz to restore that luster, but it was being willing to go into Tuscaloosa, Lincoln, Happy Valley that gave us that luster in the first place.
Let's see what happens when coach gets his system fully in place with guys who can play the system. (and fix the mess of a defense).
About the only thing I hate is that we know these will be SEC refs.
Were the epic Alcorn State or Jackson State battles on national TV?

They were probably not on TV at all, but those schools have deep loyal followings. If a Mississippi team is going to play an FCS game, we should at least play the instate ones (or a nearby out-of-state one in the case of SE Louisiana).
As I mentioned before, we set our attendance record against Alcorn...these schools do travel well to these games.
I get the point you are trying to make, but the fact is that we ended the series with Alabama in the early 2000s in the first place because there were too many close games decided by poor officiating, but Alabama will only play OOC opponents with SEC refs or else with a fat, third-party paycheck. They do us the same way in other sports as well.

It's pretty well Standard Operating Procedure for all SEC schools that SEC officials will officiate all OOC games against G5 conference teams. You've got to play your best game to win at their place because you've got to beat them, plus the SEC officiating crew.

The $EC in general, and the Crimson Menace in particular, talk a lot of smack, but the truth is, they don't play anybody they don't have to without securing every conceivable advantage first.
Hell, they'd blindfold your quarterback if they could.

I hope the return trip for USM to our house in 2015 is in the late fall.......it should make for a "colder" and "higher" climate than they are used to down south.
