No doubt. I still think they have one of the best fan bases in the country. They have 12K there every night whether they are good or bad. I wish UC had their basketball fan base. I also always love going to games at UD Arena. I know that the Xavier fans always rip on it, but I honestly think it is more fun to go watch a game there than almost any arena I've been in.

I agree, BUT UD benefits from being the only show in town for the greater Dayton area.

Dayton also sells out the Single A Dragons every game and the NCAA tourney play-in games, even when it was just a couple a 16 seeds playing each other. They apparently just love their sports in person up there.

I'm not argueing with you about the popularity of UD basketball in the Dayton area. Game in and game out, regardless of the opponenet, it always has a solid crowd.

My dad took me to UD games when I was growing up. My wife's family has owned season tickets since they opened UD arena. (I enjoy the Flight Deck for drinks, and the food concessions are much better than any other college arena I have been to).

But the Dragons statement is way off. The Dragons have the record for the most consecutive sell-outs of any pro team in the nation. They have sold out every game since the team was created.
They even mentioned this in SI this past year.

**My absolute BEST memory of UD arena was my parents taking me to my first concert of my life, for my birthday, 1982, KISS, Creatures of the Night Tour. You wanted the best, you got the best!

I remember those teams, they all were so fun to watch too.

I make no bones about how I feel when it comes to UD. Hands down IMO the best (I have personally seen) fan base in Div.1

I wish them nothing but luck except when they play UC. I attended maybe a handful and a half at UD Arena when I was a child but it took me to get into my early 30's when I really started to appreciate their fans.

When our Men in Black Hugg's teams would travel up the road to play them, they were always great experiences. That first time there under Bob's tenure the way they start out with their introductions, it's first class....all the way throughout timeouts - incredible. The families that were UCATS that traveled with us, we all just sat there in amazement during intros and then during the timeouts. More than one of us said "why isn't it like this at our place?" That would be badass. I've heard that our facilities wouldn't/can't handle having the lights off during intros and then being quickly turned on again. Ha! Upgrade that fuse box maybe? I say that in jest, I know it's not that simple.

Good for UD, I hope they win that tournament.

No. 18 Baylor rallies to survive Dayton's upset bid at buzzer

LAHAINA, Hawaii -- Baylor led Dayton for a little more than 16 seconds in the second half Tuesday night. They were the right 16 seconds.

Cory Jefferson had a go-ahead putback in the waning moments and the 18th-ranked Bears rallied for a 67-66 victory in the semifinals of the Maui Invitational.

"We led 1-zip and we finished leading by one," Baylor coach Scott Drew said. "Everything else was chasing Dayton."

The Bears will play No. 8 Syracuse for the tournament championship Wednesday night.

After trailing nearly the entire game, Baylor (6-0) whittled away a 10-point deficit over the final 7 minutes. The Bears were down by one when Kenny Chery missed a jumper off the front of the rim, but Jefferson was all alone for the rebound and his layup gave Baylor a 67-66 lead with 16 seconds to go.

Vee Sanford missed a contested shot in close for Dayton with 2 seconds left, Devin Oliver's tip-in attempt bounced off the rim and Baylor grabbed the rebound as the final buzzer sounded.

"I don't know how I missed it," Oliver said.

Royce O'Neale and Chery had 13 points each for the Bears. Jefferson, Gary Franklin and Isaiah Austin added 10 apiece.

"We just wanted to be tough. Our mental toughness was in question as a team, so we just wanted to stay together, be tough and try to pull one out and that's what we did," Chery said.

Jordan Sibert led Dayton (5-1) with 20 points and Oliver had 14.

Baylor trailed by 14 with less than 5 minutes left in the first half before going on a nine-point run to cut it to 33-28 at halftime.

The Flyers built the lead back up over the first part of the second half behind Sibert, but missed seven of their last 10 shots.

"For about 30 minutes in that game our guys looked about as good as any team in college basketball," Dayton coach Archie Miller said.

But he thought the Flyers lost the necessary intensity in the final minutes of the game.

"We just gave them too many opportunities to slice into us," Miller said.

O'Neale's 3-pointer trimmed Dayton's lead to 63-62 with 2:19 remaining. Oliver answered with a 3 but then Franklin hit from beyond the arc to make it 66-65 with 1:22 to play.

After a Baylor timeout, Oliver missed a jumper and the Bears grabbed the rebound.

Baylor shot just under 58 percent in the second half after shooting less than 42 percent before the break. The Bears finished at 50 percent (25-of-50).

"It was a great game to watch, a typical Maui-type game," Drew said.

Despite playing from behind most of the game, Baylor had more second-chance points and points off turnovers than the Flyers.

Dayton, which didn't receive any votes in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll, was trying for its second upset of a ranked team in two nights. The Flyers beat No. 11 Gonzaga in the first round of the tournament Monday.

Dayton will play California in the third-place game.
