Embarassing? I'd rather lose in OT to #23 Iowa that beat up on Kennsaw Mountain Landis.

I rather beat a cupcake than lose any game. In March that could Xavier losing an 10-7 game in the NCAA tournament while UC tips off today against at 16 seed, on the road for our 3rd national championship. At least that is my dream!

I'd say a close loss to Iowa is much better for your resume than any win over Kennesaw State or Umass Lowell (RPI Killers). That is a really good Iowa team. I was impressed with X.

RE: Crosstown rivalry
We have several quality non conference games coming up and X has played a few of the Gardner Webb and Abilene Christian types. Everyone plays the cupcakes, but we need to take care of business when we play the quality opponents. I think that's what bearcat law was getting at. Obviously nobody wants to play all cupcakes in non conference play.

Speaking of US Bank Arena I wish the city would dump a load of money into it and basically create a new home for our basketball team. On campus arena isn't such a big deal in basketball (not like football). Other than students attending I see no real reason US Bank wouldn't be a better deal for UC. Plus, would make for great before/after the game experience being downtown. Once we secure US Bank as our arena we tell XU every game will be played there or cancel the series. I do not believe we should ever set foot in Cintas again.

The city has a lot more pressing needs for money since they've now blown a hole in the budget by cancelling the parking deal( not saying I necessarily supported it, but now where else are they gonna find the cash?) Will also have to busy themselves paying out lawsuits by cancelling the streetcar project. I doubt a massive arena redo is anywhere on the radar.
Personally, I think MBB belongs on campus at UC. That's what sets us apart from commuter schools and little catholic basketball only schools who play off campus. Fortunately, Babcock seems to agree.

It would be great for the city to have a new downtown arena, I would rather have a new arena on campus in the grand scheme of things. It would be better for UC and the surrounding community. I think some of the local retailers are going to struggle next fall when football games are at PBS. Some of the local spirit wear shops in the area need UC football and basketball games to sell merchandise, while restaurants and bars need game day traffic too. Maybe weeknight basketball games aren't a huge draw but losing 18 to 20 home games in that area would hurt.
I would love to have two new arenas, one on campus and another one downtown. UC could split their time between the two depending on the opponent, day of the week, and time of the year. Too bad we don't have mega donors plus power conference money that could help build anything UC and the city of Cincinnati asks for.

Not to turn this into an XU thread, but two things I took away from that game last night.
I think Stainbrook will give UC some problems. He is a quality big man who can score and rebound well.
On the flip side, I think UC's press is going to give XU fits. They had trouble with Iowa's press which allowed Iowa back into and ultimately win the game.

Wudman is/was a damn good poster too. Other than him and Wise Man, not a fan of most XU posters.
