Men's BB Top 25
Surprised UC isn't even a fringe Top 25 team. XU ranked higher?? The next 5 games aren't going to help the cause either. Not a very impressive stretch of teams until New Mexico.

That actually surprises me. I thought a double digit win against an ACC opponent (With a prime viewing slot prior to the Champion's Classic) would really go a long way, especially with a Wooden candidate as the go to guy and having 3 seniors who are playing well. Guys are liable to have a big chip on their shoulders. Take care of business and it will work itself out.

NC State was picked to finish 10th in the ACC. That win was largely shrugged off by the voters given the expectations for a young NC State team. New Mexico game will be big time.

RE: Men's BB Top 25
There's something mindless about poll voting. If teams ranked 18-25 lose a game or two, even to a much higher ranked team (which, arguably, they should lose), they often drop out and "also receiving votes" teams backfill. So UC could be ranked prior to the New Mexico game. That appears to be a very tough road test so I'd probably rather see the Bearcats ranked after they win that one. How's that for optimism?

RE: Men's BB Top 25
The lack of respect our football and men's hoops teams get is just staggering….

There is always an excuse as to why we are not ranked preseason/early. Yet look at what we do in football year in and year out. Then you have Miami FL who gets to suck in the Top 25 for WEEKS before people FINALLY figure out they are not worthy drop them out.

And hoops…we've been to three straight ncaa tourneys….and it counts for nothing early the next season.

staggering

Pretty amazing but I just saw on twitter that Memphis hasn't beaten a team in the AP Top 25 since February 7, 2009. Calipari was still the head coach.

UC is consistently undervalued in the polls for both major sports. Those long ago national championships for Miami (FL) and Notre Dame have kept even their mediocre teams ranked when wearing those unis. Memphis hasn't really achieved much in March Madness since Calipari but they continue to get lots of love from the media.

More importantly though, winning trumps polls and UC can make a strong case to P5 conferences with real results for the past 5+ years.

Memphis really has been living on being the big dog in a bad conference, but haven't really beaten anyone outside of conference. We shall learn a lot more about them this season.

I turned that one off last night in the middle of the second half - Memphis was down by 30 and looking as horrible as one might imagine.

I don't know, OSU held Marquette to 35 points at home on Saturday. Especially with new defense rules I found that impressive.

FWIW, I think we're finally being overranked a bit in football right now. No way Fresno, UCF, or NIU gets ranked 27th right now if they had 2 losses, and they've had tougher schedules than us so far. If we finish this year ranked, I think that we'll become the new non-power conference darling, and be treated sort of like TCU and Boise have been treated the last few years.

For basketball, it will take another Sweet 16 appearance before the pollsters will believe that we're back as a program. It's BS, but I think that few people nationally realize how bad of a situation Cronin was handed. They think we just sucked as a program without Huggins here. They were too busy focusing on Tom f-ing Crean's rebuilding effort to realize that Cronin faced a similar task and has done a similar job.

1. Ohio State has not been overrated. They have made it to at least the Sweet 16 5 of the last 7 years including the Final 4 in '07 and '12 along with the Elite 8 in '13. Throw in 4 B1G conference tournament titles and 5 regular season titles in that same span. That is pretty elite.

2. I do not see how Memphis continues to get the pre-season respect year and year when they consistenly lose to good competition. I wish Cincinnati could be afforded the same luxury.

3. I think with a recognizable coach like Tubs, UC will begin to get the respect in the football polls, similar to how Huggins teams tended to be overranked and overseeded because of the respect coaches/media had for Huggins.

When we were in C-USA UC was afforded the same rankings that Memphis gets now, this will change over a period of time.

Agreed on all counts.

Especially the part about Memphis. I really don't get how people think that they're this powerhouse program. They've made 3 Final Fours, but 2 of them were rescinded because they cheated. In my mind, that's worse than never making it to begin with.

They mentioned a stat during that Memphis game, something like they had not beaten a top 25 team since Calipari was there. Did anyone catch that stat?

RE: Men's BB Top 25
i think it'd be cool if we get a 4 or 5 seed and people be like, what the f*ck? for real? and not be ranked the whole year. that happen once to me. i was a sophomore in high school and the school year was ending. i could exempt two of my classes i had an a in or i could exempt one that i had a b in. i chose the b one because that meant i could sneak out of town earlier and on route to portland. my biology teacher looked at me when i said i wanted to exempt his exam as if i wouldn't possibly be able to request it. and he might have said, well i'll be damned. you can exempt it.
