They have already signed a center for this class. Surprised by this turn of events. Oh well, we still have a great class but this would have been a nice surprise.

Good luck backing up Jacquil Taylor, Mr. Haas

That's why I'm saying I believe he thought he was too good for UAB.

UAB had been recruiting him hard from the beginning, but he decides to commit to a sh!tty situation at Wake Forest.

They do him wrong, Purdue comes in at the last minute, and he decides to sign with them (instead of UAB - who again is in his backyard, was in on him from the beginning, and has lots of his Bama basketball cohorts signed for next year). Even though he could step in and likely start for us from day 1, he decides to go to a worse situation playing time wise (and maybe talent wise? UAB looks to be pretty stacked next year).

Doesn't make a lot of sense to me..

If he thought he was too good for UAB, why would he reconsider us?

Purdue didn't come in at the last minute. He took a visit back in August.

And we all need to take a step back for a minute. Haas may very well be a good college player, but a lot of what I read seemed to indicate that he was going to need some development. I don't think he was going to start for us immediately, and with Lee, Washington, and Mehinti next year, he may have struggled to crack the rotation. It's a loss that we didn't get him, no doubt, but he wasn't the second coming of Shaq. I still think missing out on Coleman hurt more than this did.

It seem that he didnt want to play at UAB at this moment
he may not play very much at purdue and transfert to UAB later
It will be good for us because he can practise for an year before stepping on the court

The recruiting grief process

Step 1. He thinks he is too good for us.
Step 2: he isn't as good as we (he) thinks he is.

Step 3: (still to come) Purdue must have illegally recruited him.

Step 4: Memphis Blazer ever present to point out to us how invalid and stupid our opinions are.

Really MB? Did anybody who read anything about Haas really think he would start from day 1 at UAB? I definitely wasn't trying to say he couldn't play the game, but if you're 7'2" and being recruited by Wake, Purdue, and UAB, there are some obvious flaws. I think Haas would have started and been a very solid player for UAB, I just don't think it would have been during his first year.

Meh, so he's not going to be a Blazer. I'm not going to begrudge the kid, but I'm not going to go into mourning, either.

Disappointing, but in the immortal words of Norman Dale, "My team is on the floor."

It may have been a stretch for me to say he'd start from day 1, but he definitely would have had major minutes. I think he could've started by mid season. He's #80ish on the espn rankings. Kinnard was around #110 and was a four year starter. AJ was starting his freshmen year and he wasnt a highly touted recruit. It's not without precedent.

The guy is 7'2" and wasn't being offered by major programs. That should tell you he's a bit of a project. How much? I don't know. Plus, next year he would be behind a likely all conference guy in Washington and likely Lee or Mehinti. Again, I think he would play at UAB as a freshman, I just don't think he would start.(Unless he could play the point, then he could take over the hole left when Frazier is drafted #1 overall)

I'm not saying I didn't want Haas to come to UAB, because I most definitely did. But, if you told me we could only have Lee or Haas two weeks ago, I would have wanted Lee. It sucks to miss on a talented guy we have been after for so long, but it isn't the end of the world.(again, Coleman really hurt, we needed him)

I'm more than happy about Lee. I'd definitely rather have him.

And yes, I was envisioning Haas playing point when Frazier was the first pick of the Utah Jazz next year. Oh well, we will just have to give that spot to someone else!
