#Cincinnati 2014 non-conference football opponents: Miami (OH), Stony Brook, Toledo, at Miami (FL), at Ohio St. Will have to cancel one.

i thought someone already posted that Stonybrook was off the schedule.

True. I think Poteat himself tweeted as much.

RE: Future scheduling
UC football to play Miami Hurricanes
11/19/13 at 10:01am by Tom Groeschen

Sources told The Enquirer on Tuesday morning that the University of Cincinnati football team would play a home-and-home football series with the University of Miami Hurricanes in 2014 and ’15. UC confirmed the details in a press released, with the Bearcats to play in 2014 in Miami and the Hurricanes visiting in 2015 at Nippert Stadium.

The release from UC:

The University of Cincinnati football team will play a home-and-home series against the University of Miami (Fla.), Director of Athletics Whit Babcock announced Tuesday.

The Bearcats will travel to Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla. on Oct. 11, 2014 with the Hurricanes returning the trip to a newly renovated Nippert Stadium on Oct. 3, 2015.

The teams have met 11 times in a series that started in 1947, with the Hurricanes holding a 10-1 advantage. The two squads played every year from 1982-89 with Miami ranked in the Top-10 for six of the eight matchups. The most recent meeting was in Cincinnati in 1998.

UC Head Coach Tommy Tuberville was on the Miami staff from 1986-93 first as the defensive line and linebackers coach and later as defensive coordinator (1993). While serving on the staffs of Jimmy Johnson and Dennis Erickson, Tuberville helped coach Miami to three national titles, an 87-9 record and nine-straight new year’s day bowl appearances.

UC offensive coordinator Eddie Gran also has extensive Florida ties, serving as a graduate assistant at Miami from 1990-91, coaching at Florida State (2010-12) and spending the better part of two decades with Miami and greater South Florida as his primary recruiting areas.

UC has 17 players on its 2013 roster from the state of Florida, the most of any state besides Ohio.

Miami is the latest marquee opponent UC has added to its future schedules list over the next five seasons. UC will face future contests at Ohio State (2014), at BYU (2015), vs. BYU and at Purdue (2016), at Michigan (2017).

Further future scheduling opportunities will be announced as arrangements are completed.

Alabama Crimson Tide
Arizona State Sun Devils
USC Trojans
Florida State Seminoles
Miami Hurricanes
Georgia Bulldogs
Illinois Fighting Illini
Indiana Hoosiers
Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Purdue Boilermakers
Iowa State Cyclones
Michigan State Spartans
Ole Miss Rebels
Nebraska Cornhuskers
UNLV Rebels
Rutgers Scarlet Knights
Syracuse Orange
Duke Blue Devils
North Carolina Tar Heels
Wake Forest Demon Deacons
Ohio State Buckeyes
Oklahoma Sooners
Oklahoma State Cowboys
Texas A&M Aggies
Tennessee Volunteers
Vanderbilt Commodores
Texas Tech Red Raiders
Utah Utes
Virginia Cavaliers
West Virginia Mountaineers

I would also hazard a guess that Illinois and Purdue wouldn't be on our schedules again so soon after a home and home series with both.

For the Nippert grand re-opening, you want a quality team, but one you have a chance of beating. That being said, you're roughly left with:

Arizona State Sun Devils
USC Trojans
Miami Hurricanes
Illinois Fighting Illini
Indiana Hoosiers
Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Purdue Boilermakers
Iowa State Cyclones
Ole Miss Rebels
UNLV Rebels
Rutgers Scarlet Knights
Syracuse Orange
Duke Blue Devils
North Carolina Tar Heels
Wake Forest Demon Deacons
Oklahoma State Cowboys
Texas A&M Aggies
Tennessee Volunteers
Vanderbilt Commodores
Texas Tech Red Raiders
Utah Utes
Virginia Cavaliers
West Virginia Mountaineers

I think we have shot against any of those but I'd like to see a team we haven't played. Based on that, I'm looking at:

Notre Dame or Texas Tech (just my thoughts)

It looks like the Bearcats will be opening next season with a conference game, maybe two unless there is a bye in there during the first two weeks.

Whit tweeted a correction - saying that he should have said "nickname" instead of mascot.

And way to go, UC. Regardless of who opens in 2015, the basketball and football scheduling has been vastly improved since Mike Thomas left. How they're doing this with the funds we currently have is awesome and proves that it can be done.

Go cats!

Great pickup for the non-conference schedule. Were going to have two very tough non-conference games against the buckeyes and the hurricanes next year on the road but I like it.

I completely agree. Although it won't stop the gripes about this conference, I sure hope it at least slows them down.

RE: Future scheduling
This ESPN article says UC plays Michigan in 2017. I think we already knew that, correct?

The Cincinnati Bearcats and the Miami Hurricanes will play a home-and-home series in 2014 and 2015, the schools announced Tuesday.

Miami will host Cincinnati on Oct. 11, 2014, then make a visit to newly renovated Nippert Stadium on Oct. 3, 2015.

The Hurricanes hold a 10-1 advantage in the series, with the last meeting in 1998.

Cincinnati coach Tommy Tuberville was on the Miami staff from 1986-93 and won three national championships. Offensive coordinator Eddie Gran also has extensive Florida ties, serving as a graduate assistant at Miami in 1990-91, coaching at Florida State (2010-12) and spending the better part of two decades recruiting South Florida.

In addition to Miami, Cincinnati has added Ohio State (2014), BYU (2015, 2016), Purdue (2016) and Michigan (2017) to future schedules.

I think it would be awesome to open up the newly renovated Nippert with a big name SEC team. Some of the top SEC teams have played on the road at stadiums with 35-45K capacity. LSU and Texas A&M both have 2015 openings...the team in bold is also an Adidas school.

That would be awesome but didn't Whit mention a H&H for 2014-15 then another for, like, 2016-17? Sounds like there won't be another non-conference opponent added to the 2015 schedule.

They might just play an FCS team to open new Nippert. Game will probably do well ticket wise anyway and that could give the school a chance to show off the stadium without the concern of losing the first game.

Given the October game date, obviously the U is not the official opener. I would be shocked if we could swing a 2015 OOC home slate with Miami & another big name, so I am going to wager the opening of the new stadium will be a Labor Day Weekend CONFERENCE tilt. ESPN loves to do those, and game against fellow AAC heavyweight UCF actually wouldn't be too bad.

Either would West Virginia or Texas!04-rock05-stirthepot

Right now Alabama A&M is scheduled for Labor day weekend03-zzz

The Cincinnati Bearcats will host Alabama A&M at Nippert Stadium on Sept. 5, 2015, FBSchedules.com confirmed with the UC athletic department. A&M and Cincinnati have also never met on the gridiron.

Yea that's a good point. Pretty much regardless of who UC schedules to open the 2015 season, the excitement of a renovated Nippert will basically ensure a sell out.
