QuinDuke, absolutely, JMU not making the playoffs is underperforming. That doesn't mean that I'd rake the coach or our program over the coals for missing the playoffs on occassion. But, JMU should be in the playoff three out of every five years and make a solid run for the championship in at least one of those three. Its headed for 6 out of 15 if a miracle doesn't happen this year and only two serious runs during this time. Hopefully, I will not have to concern myself with FCS pllayoffs too much longer.

Your expectations is something we should aim for no doubt but there's nothing in our history other than what Matthews accomplished himself that suggests JMU should perform to that level.

That said, Matthews has overstayed his welcome if you will. He's accomplished all he's probably going to accomplish here and it's time for a change.

RE: Bourne Candidate for Virginia Tech AD Job
Va. Tech will not hire Bourne although I suspect he will get an interview. The new AD at Va. Tech will have to make the biggest hire in school history when he or she has to find Frank Beamer's replacement. The Hokies will hire an AD with a strong track record of hiring great football coaches. Va. Tech is a one trick pony, the school is obsessed with its football program and not much else athletically. Va. Tech will not hire an AD who failed to read the contract of his targeted head basketball coach with Matt Brady which embarrassed JMU and missed completely when he hired Dean Keener.

OT.... but if MM misses the playoffs and is bought out of his final year of his contract, I do not trust Bourne to hire the new football coach. Frankly, it scares me.

Does anyone see anything wrong with giving O'Cain two years to see what he can do?

Under normal circumstances no, but if JMU is going to transition to FBS we need a coach to be the face and future of the program during this big and exciting transition.

I agree with this.

Yes...I hated the hire as an OC.

Nice guy and a good person, but NOT a good coach. At one time, maybe he was.....but not now.

Has Bourne really ever made a decision? I get the impression that he learns of hiring/retaining/firing decisions are roughly the same time as the general public. The AD role at JMU has far less authority than the AD role at any other school.
