Rice has been burned by a western-based league before. Can't believe they'd want to do it all over again.

This is not the CUSA Rice left the WAC to join. Im not so sure Rice would just dismiss a Mountain West invitation--especially if another Texas team or two were included. Rice actually has more history with some of the MW teams than they do with many of CUSA's new members. Rice might choose to stay, but I could see them leaving just as easily.

True, but the MWC is not the WAC that Rice joined after the SWC dissolved, either.

Let's say, hypothetically, that C-USA's 4 Texas-based members all left for MWC at the same time, which is the "dream" that ESE84 mentioned. At that point, the MWC would become a 16-team league for football. Eleven of those members were a part of the 16-team WAC of the late '90s:

Air Force
Colorado State
Fresno State
Hawaii
New Mexico
Rice
San Diego State
San Jose State
UNLV
UTEP
Wyoming

But the other 5 teams would be new:
Boise State
Nevada
North Texas
UTSA
Utah State

Those 5 teams would be, in effect, replacing:
BYU
SMU
TCU
Tulsa
Utah

Playoff selection committee on the record saying winner of a CCG will be in the selection criteria.

UC is in a much worse conference situation than we've been in since the early 70s. Even after the Metro blew up, at least in the 90s we were with our rival Louisville and a few other Midwestern teams with Marquette, SLU, and Depaul.

UC has other long time rivals in the conference together like Memphis, USF, UCONN and Temple. It's not like UC is on an island like WVU is now.

The American isn't a bad conference at all until you realize how terrible the TV deal and bowl picture is. That's what I have an issue with.

Agree on the bowls. Now the TV do you mean $$ or the actual tv deal? I thought the exposure/actual TV airtime was better than the old big east?

I like many of the AAC schools, Houston, ECU, UCF all play some solid football. 1/2 of the conference is starting freshman QBs and they will be better next year. Not overly concerned about bball.

The TV deal exposure wise is very very good, the money is not.

I agree--its not the old WAC. But its a lot closer to the old WAC than the new CUSA is to the one Rice joined (11 of 16 originals remain rather than 5 of 12 originals). By the way, I was under the impression that this scenario included BYU coming back to the MW, in which case 12 of the original WAC-16 members would be there.

That's not the scenario that ESE84 was describing.

I mainly am talking about the money. But while I expect basketball exposure to be very good, I think the football exposure is going to be down from the big east. But, there is no way for me to say that for sure, as noone will know what it looks like until the first year of the deal next year.
