RE: The subject no Cajun football fan wants to discuss......
A friend of mine back home handled Hud's divorce and the man all up is already over the $1,000,000 mark. I'd bet the upward limit to pay him isn't that far north of that. It's definitely under $2,000,000 but probably not far off.

We won't pay a coach 2.5 million for a long, long time.

What were you paying those guys? I firmly believe UL is both willing and able to pay whatever is necessary to keep Hud from going to any but top tier BCS programs. We can't pay Georgia or Florida or LSU money, but Mississippi State or Ole Miss or Vandy money is available. I'm not saying he won't go; but I am saying he won't go anywhere that doesn't fork over truckloads of cash, and that doesn't offer a reasonable chance at a National Championship.
Any of those schools could outpay you guys. ASU offered Malzahn like 1.5 million dollars...Auburn calmly offered 3 million.
Freeze is getting around 2.5 million with incentives at Ole Miss. Can the Cajuns even come close to matching that? Malzahn reportedly turned down 3 million at Vandy a few years ago.
If we have to, yes.
Then the SEC school will calmly offer more money. All they have to do is call another friendly wealthy booster who will write the check the next day.
UL could probably come up with close to 2 million if you pooled all your financial resources in the right place. We know ASU can come up with around 1.5. Eventually that money will run out. The SEC money never runs out.

I'm not telling myself he won't leave...eventually he will. But some on this board think just because a program is in the SEC it woudl be a done deal...its not! His criteria is pretty simple, would the program have the resources to compete against Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Georgia, Texas A&M, Florida and Tenneessee? No on Miss, State. Would he interview, I bet he would.

That's been my point. MSU can pay the man more but it could be a bad career move because while they can out-pay UL they don't have the resources to compete in the SEC.
