Arkansas Derby champion Smarty Jones (above) is headed to Churchill Downs for the Kentucky Derby. As most people in Arkansas know, if Smarty Jones wins the Kentucky Derby, the owners receive $5 million, the largest prize in American horse racing history, and the same amount given for a horse who wins the Triple Crown.

More on the Arkansas Derby Champion....

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - In a season filled with upsets, the biggest upset of all would be if Smarty Jones wins the Kentucky Derby.

The chestnut colt heads to Churchill Downs with an unknown trainer, an untested jockey and a pedigree that doesn’t scream mile-and-a-quarter.

But for all his perceived imperfections, one thing about Smarty Jones is perfect: his record.

Now 6-for-6 after winning Saturday’s Arkansas Derby, Smarty Jones is the only undefeated horse among dozens of 3-year-old Derby hopefuls. Critics point out the Pennsylvania bred hasn’t run against the toughest competition, and even trainer John Servis admits taking “the easiest route.
