Good choices.
@LL
Walking With a Panther took me a long time to see the how good it really was overall, and what I mean is past the hits. At the song you picked specifically: I don't know if another rapper at that time could have pulled off that "weird" beat and rhyme scheme. It sounded like nothing else out there, nothing like anything he had done prior, and the video was different too.
@ Ton Loc
Great track and video. I had his album on tape. I was surprised how "gangster" it was in spots but I always appreciated his ability to use rock music for his beats. He actually had good flows and rhymes all over that debut album but his follow up, Cool Hand Luc was garbage. Like, two decent songs and best and the rest of it was just not up the standard set with the first album.
@ Young MC
His video hits off that debut album were pretty legit, but a school friend dubbed me a copy of the full tape and when I got to listening to all his other tracks I just wasn't feeling him. He could rap, he could get some decent beats here and there, but a lot of his material past the hits just wasn't good to me. Then he tried to be all gangster on his follow up and I saw through it and passed completely.

Artist: Jane's Addiction
Album: Nothing's Shocking
Track: "Mountain Song"
August 23, 1988 Warner Bros. Records
Saw them on the tour for this album. Only sold 200,000 copies of it or so. they opened for Iggy Pop. All I could think was WTH is this? Farrell was a sight, but it left an indelible impression. He certainly knew what he was doing. The album is terrific for its genre.

Cool interview with Smashing Pumpkins' Billy Corgin.
And a bit dated (and from Salon) but nevertheless, here's the article by Courtney Love which Corgin mentions in the video above that shows how ridiculous things can get:
RE: OT: CUSA board Music thread (what are you listening to right now?)
Artist: Ray Charles
Felt: Ernie & Bert
Song: "I Got A Song"
taped on May 5, 1977, season 9 1977-1978
Always liked this one with Ray Charles:
Felt: Cookie Monster & Herry Monster
Song: "Up and Down"
season 2 1970-1971
The vinyl version I grew up with was the album from 1974 (Original Cast Record; Sesame Street 1)
Frank Oz (does Yoda in Star Wars)- Cookie Monster Jane Henson - Assistant Puppetry on Cookie Monster Jim Henson - Herry Monster (I think he did both the puppetry and voice) and Jerry Nelson (assistant puppetry for this sketch) And I think this was directed by Robert Myhrum.
And...for those of you too young to know, What became the Cookie Monster originally had TEETH!

I found this super interesting in comparing those two songs and I had no idea how similar they were and the whole background to them coming to be. I knew Mustaine was in Metallica and I knew he got kicked out. But I had no idea about these songs...
*Personally, I I find Metallica more listenable than Megadeth. And I have never been overly fond of Mustaine's vocals. That said I do like a few Megadeth songs.

Not a bad track...but I am of the opinion that
Vinne Paul, Phil Anselmo, and Dimebag are and were Pantera. What they went onto afterwards while not bad, just didn't have the magic of Pantera.
