This came up on my play list after mowing the front today (after it dipped below 100 for the first time in a week). One and one half beers into my cool down I had the right mental state to enjoy this along with my previous post.

School starts much earlier than I remember. Still, for all those in back to school mode:

Artist: Men At Work
Album: Business As Usual
Song: "Be Good Johnny"
1982 Epic Records

Such a haunting melody from French composer Erik Satie and performed with such eloquence by the Quartet Cinderella. The filming is excellent too.

I’ve posted this guy before. But I believe Sturgill Simpson is a generational talent. To be the same guy that put out High Top Mountain early and moved all the way to A Sailor’s Guide to Earth amazes a non musician like me. But I love music and I know what I love and I love all of his albums no matter how different they sound.

Anyhoo this popped up on a playlist the other day and I’d never heard it before and I guess that’s because I don’t have HBO. This guy has incredible range as an artist. But deep down I think he’s just a dirty asssed old Kentucky southern boy that knows how to get down.

One of the YouTube commenters left a perfect description imo.

Quote:The sound has been tied to the back of a black Lincoln Continental, dragged across the train tracks, through the back alleys and into the hills where it's been smoking unfiltered cigarettes by the bonfire.

That's always a good one, Dog. Got to see them out in Laughlin, NV a few years ago. Not all the originals, but still a great show. The Spinners had some good songs.

Intriguing performance from two old-school dames, one born in Minnesota, one born in North Dakota. Strange to think that Judy was actually 2 years younger than Peggy.

Singers: Peggy Lee & Judy Garland
Song: "I Love Being Here With You"
Songwriters: Peggy Lee, Bill Schluger
TV airdate: December 1, 1963 (taped November 8, 1963) kinda ominous, actually.
from: The Judy Garland Show, an American musical variety television series that aired on CBS on Sunday nights during the 1963–1964 television season.
*Note: song can be found on the album: Basin Street East Proudly Presents Miss Peggy Lee

RE: OT: CUSA board Music thread (what are you listening to right now?)
Artists: Passengers
Album: Original Soundtracks Volume 1
Track: "Always Forever Now"
6 November 1995 Island Records

The album is a collection of songs written for mostly imaginary films (the exceptions being songs for Ghost in the Shell, Miss Sarajevo, and Beyond the Clouds). Due to Brian Eno's involvement as a full songwriting partner and the album's experimental nature, the moniker "Passengers" was chosen to distinguish it from U2's conventional albums. It was commercially unnoticed by the band's standards. Guest musicians on the record included Italian opera singer Luciano Pavarotti (on "Miss Sarajevo") and producer Howie B, who would co-produce U2's following album, Pop (1997).

Can definitely hear the Edge influence along with Brian Eno in that tune.
