Time for some chill out. A classic by Schubert done by an electronic orchestra and remixed to boot. The song is not your ordinary!

Schubert: Schwanengesang (Standchen) (Kate Simko & London Electronic Orchestra remix

Making good use of your time: The song was written by Chuck Berry. It was composed in the early 1960s while Berry was in federal prison for violating the Mann Act.

The Tedeschi Trucks Band is a really tight blues rock band I've been listening to lately. This is one of their tunes live that I like: Bound for Glory

RE: OT: CUSA board Music thread (what are you listening to right now?)
Artist: Johnny Cash
Album: The Johnny Cash Show
Song: "Sunday Morning Coming Down"
Songwriter: Kris Kristofferson
October 1970 Columbia Records

Kristofferson wrote it, but I always prefer the Johnny Cash version. The song was also recorded in 1969 by Ray Stevens before becoming a number one hit for Johnny Cash.

I usually play it on the jukebox when I visit the Waffle House...if you hear it there, turn around and wave to me, as I'm probably finishing my scattered and smothered in one of the booths.

Cash introduced the song with the following monologue:
Quote:"You know, not everyone who has been on 'the bum' wanted it that way. The Great Depression of the 30's set the feet of thousands of people—farmers, city workers—it set 'em to ridin' the rails. My Daddy was one of those who hopped a freight train a couple of times to go and look for work. He wasn't a bum. He was a hobo but he wasn't a bum. I suppose we've all....all of us 'been at one time or another 'drifter at heart', and today like yesterday there's many that are on that road headin' out. Not searchin' maybe for work, as much as for self-fulfillment, or understanding of their life...trying to find a *meaning* for their life. And they're not hoppin' freights much anymore. Instead they're thumbin' cars and diesel trucks along the highways from Maine to Mexico. And many who have drifted...including myself...have found themselves no closer to peace of mind than a dingy backroom, on some lonely Sunday morning, with it comin' down all around you.

RE: OT: CUSA board Music thread (what are you listening to right now?)
Artist: Roger Miller
Album: The Return of Roger Miller
Song: "King of the Road"
January 1965 Smash Records

Jan 2, 1936 - Oct 25, 1992 Critics gave the album positive reviews, remarking that "King of the Road" was "perhaps the most perfect country song ever written" By itself, the track won five Grammy awards for Miller including best Rock and roll single. It was the biggest crossover hit of Miller's career reaching the top of the country, adult contemporary, and English singles charts, and peaking in the top ten in the Billboard 100 and Canadian singles charts.

Miller was a lifelong cigarette smoker. During a television interview, Miller explained that he composed his songs from "bits and pieces" of ideas he wrote on scraps of paper. When asked what he did with the unused bits and pieces, he half-joked, "I smoke 'em!" He also wrote a song about his habit, titled "Dad Blame Anything A Man Can't Quit". Miller died of lung and throat cancer in 1992, at the relatively young age of 56, shortly after the discovery of a malignant tumor under his vocal cords. Shame he couldn't quit and had to go so soon. Probably had a lot more songs in him.

This first one is not as famous as a couple of their bigger hits but listening to this with headphones makes you really appreciate how good all three guys were.

I never thought Mark Farner got the acclaim as one of the really, really good rock guitarists from back then.

Yeah, it’s long by today’s standards and people’s short attentions spans but it is worth listening to all of it.

Grand Funk Railroad - Inside Looking Out

This one was a pretty big hit for them and brings back a lot of very fond memories for me. They were true American badasses.

That was fun! Made me think of this one for some reason:

Artist: New York Dolls
Album: New York Dolls
Song: "Pills"
Songwriter: Bo Diddley (1961 single)
July 27, 1973 Mercury Records

Quote:Ellas McDaniel (born Ellas Otha Bates, December 30, 1928 – June 2, 2008), known as Bo Diddley, was an American singer, guitarist, songwriter and music producer who played a key role in the transition from the blues to rock and roll. He influenced many, many artists, including Elvis Presley, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and the Clash. Bo Diddley's final guitar performance on a studio album was with the New York Dolls on their 2006 album One Day It Will Please Us to Remember Even This.

Quote:In 1971, vocalist David Johansen formed the New York Dolls with guitarists Johnny Thunders and Rick Rivets, bassist Arthur Kane, and drummer Billy Murcia; Rivets was replaced by Sylvain Sylvain in 1972. The band was meant to be a temporary project for the members, who were club-going youths that had gone to New York City with different career pursuits. As Sylvain recalled, "We just said 'Hey, maybe this will get us some chicks.' That seemed like a good enough reason." He and Murcia originally planned to work in the clothing business and opened a boutique on Lexington Avenue that was across the street from a toy repair shop called the New York Dolls Hospital, which gave them the idea for their name. The group soon began playing regularly in lower Manhattan and earned a cult following within a few months with their reckless style of rock music. Nonetheless, record companies were hesitant to sign them because of their onstage cross-dressing and blatant vulgarity. New York Dolls is the 1973 debut studio album by the American hard rock band New York Dolls. By the time the album was recorded, the band had developed a following by playing regularly in lower Manhattan after forming in 1971. For shock value, the group was photographed in exaggerated drag on the album cover.

After signing to Mercury Records, the New York Dolls recorded the album at The Record Plant in New York with producer Todd Rundgren, who was known for his sophisticated pop tastes and held a lukewarm opinion of the band. Despite stories of conflicts during the recording sessions, lead singer David Johansen and guitarist Sylvain Sylvain later said Rundgren successfully captured how the band sounded live. Their music on the album incorporates carefree rock and roll, Brill Building pop influences, and campy sensibilities, while Johansen's colloquial and ambiguous lyrics explore themes of urban youth, teen alienation, adolescent romance, and authenticity.

Artist: Bo Diddley
Album: (single release)
Song: "Pills"
1961 Chess Records

I had my neighbor over one night drinking some brews and your favorite popped up on the playlist. He went crazy. He used to be on nuclear subs and when their cruise was over they would play this on the intercom as they sailed home. Grand Funk had some really good tunes in the day and they are still up there in my playlists.
