RE: OT: CUSA board Music thread (what are you listening to right now?)
Going through some of my dad's old faves, I found a cd that wasn't labeled. Knew it was Julie Andrews, but had to look up the song. from a 1970's Blake Edwards film about WWI. Beautiful vocal:

Artist: Julie Andrews
Album: Darling Lili Soundtrack
Song: "Whistling Away the Dark"
Songwriters: Henry Mancini & Johnny Mercer
1970 RCA Victor Records

"Whistling Away the Dark"
written by: Henry Mancini & Johnny Mercer

Often I think this sad old world is whistling in the dark.
Just like a child, who, late from school walks bravely
Home through the park.
To keep their spirits soaring and keep the night at bay.
Neither quite knowing which way they are going, they sing
The shadows away,
Often I think my poor old heart has given up for good.
and then I see a brand new face, I glimpse some new
Neighborhood.
So walk me back home, my darling, tell me dreams really come true.
Whistling whistling here in the dark with you.
Often I think my poor old heart has given up for good.
and then I see a brand new face, I glimpse some new
Neighborhood.
So walk me back home, my darling, tell me dreams really come true.
Whistling whistling here in the dark with you.

here's another that was on the end of the same disc. I remember listening to this one on AM radio back in the day. Instrumental backing was provided by L.A. session musicians from the Wrecking Crew.

Artist: Albert Hammond
Album: It Never Rains in Southern California
Song: "It Never Rains in Southern California"
October 21, 1972 Mums Records

and when he was a bit older, still singing it:

I remember when listening to REM meant something in this world. I remember when they meant something too.

I was never a fan but I could put together a "hits" disc of tunes I did like by them.
