Not saying I don't identify with this feeling, but it seems like the AAC will be our spot for quite awhile. So, IMO, UC is better off in the long term with a general change in this attitude towards the AAC. If devoted fans like you feel that way, though, I have obvious doubts that the "bandwagon" fans will change the way they feel about things.

Ironically, the level of football in the new teams is at a higher level than the teams that left. For example, I find UCF, Houston, and SMU far more entertaining than Pitt, Rutgers and Syracuse.

Now, WVU and UL - there is an excellent point there. Losing our closest neighbors really hurt.

This offseason will likely be the first since 95' that the decision on renewal might rest on the home slate lineup. Depends on what the league office gives us.

I am unlikely to pay to go to sterile PBS all year to watch Stney Brook, Miami, Toledo, South Florida, and Memphis unless the last 2 conference games are worth the $$.

That was about picture perfect football weather against a solid good passing team. And we were 6-2 . Not sure what the excuse could generally be for students to stay home. You wanna be looked at as big time, act like big time fans. If and when conferences come a courtin, it'd be nice to show a regular full house off game in and game out.

I just remembered UC is off today (Monday) . Possibly a lot of students went home for the long weekend? Find it hard to believe it would be that many tho

EDIT: my bad , already mentioned.

Huge burden for them to drive down to campus from mommy and daddy's house in West Chester.

RE: Game Thread: UC vs SMU
If it is like the old days, the best student fans are not the ones from the Cincinnati area. The ones who have a short drive home to their parents house never fully connect with the university. The real fans were always the ones from at least a few hours away. And those are the ones who would be most likely to go home for a long holiday weekend.

I know I would have gone home on a three day weekend years ago, especially in my first 2-3 years of school.

This...

Most everyone I knew from around the Cincinnati area was still so disgustingly infatuated with their high schools during college. Coming from well outside Cincinnati (suburban Detroit originally), it was hilarious to see people go to more high school events than college ones, and to have people NEVER branch out to other groups of people outside of their high school friends, sad to say the least. It became apparent that no one from the GCL South ever really graduated from high school...but with how much money they wasted, I can't blame them.

Seriously. It's a five minute - ten at worst - walk across campus.

Houston will be one. Hopefully UCF will be the other.

RE: Game Thread: UC vs SMU
I think the out of town students are not that great either. They seem to be ones that show up for the social side of things, or thats how I remember it during my days at UC. The locals were the die-hard basketball fans due to success of Huggins during their K through 12 years, they grew up watching UC basketball. Football didn't have consistent support during those years but the out of town students I knew always seemed to go home to Columbus, Dayton, or Cleveland over the weekend.

The high school loyalty non-sense is something I can't stand and I have lived in the Cincinnati area my entire life. I went to my high school because my parents owned a house in that district. I went to UC because I wanted to attend that school and not Ohio State, Ohio University, Miami University, Akron, or Toledo. I was always a fan but I was extremely impressed with the campus when they brought me in for a scholarship competition. Ohio State was so big and impersonal, I felt everyone was a robot there. Ohio University was a very nice campus but I didn't like their honors program and it was in the middle of nowhere. Miami University was snobby as heck.
