Well first off, EMU has to be the worst possible D1 coaching destination in the nation. They have the worst fan support and their facilities aren't that great. Not to mention, they never ever win.

But they have had a pretty tough schedule this year. They lost to Penn State (5-3), Rutgers (5-3), Ball State (9-1), Buffalo (7-2), Army (3-6), Ohio (6-3), NIU (8-0) and Toledo (6-3).

Just don't get the timing of this, less than 24 hours before a potential victory over another crappy MAC team in WMU. I don't see how Emu has the least bit of a chance now against WMU.

Unless there's some sort of morals charge coming up, this would seem to be poor taste on EMUs part. Utxctrack might have a point.

Stan Parish is the interim. I didn't realize he was on their staff. Hard to imagine a Parish coached team as bad as EMU has been.

I don't know about that. If you are paying someone to be the leader of your team, you expect him to do and not do the things that good leaders do and don't do. Berating his team in the manner that he did is not the character of a good leader. Now I can understand a little more why that team is so horrible. Who wants to give their best for someone that berates them by calling them names, telling them they are the worst football team he's ever been around and apparently calling some of them gay? Yes the team is terrible but he should not be in a position to coach and develop kids into men with those tactics and he certainly shouldn't be paid to do it.

BTW, even if your team is undefeated, if an audiotape like this surfaces, how do you justify not firing the head coach for this if you are the AD?

Agree that this is no way for a coach to motivate a team. I know a lot of people who think that motivates teams, but I don't believe the great coaches resort to that kind of name calling and insulting of the team. It's no wonder EMU has been so bad recently if that's the way he has been coaching.

And by the way, EMU just won, beating WMU in OT. Granted, it was only WMU, but it's a start.

After listening to, and reading the attempted transcript, there is no way you could keep him as HC. If he would have said that to me, I would have got up and walked out - no reason that anyone deserves that treatment.

The question you highlighted was a rhetorical question...I guess I should have used the phrase "how does one justify..." rather than "how do you justify..." but I thought you'd know what I meant. Obviously I don't believe you to be the EMU AD. Yes, I'm guessing he was going to be fired at the end of the season anyway because of the other factors (losing) but even if he were winning, there is no other way to handle this issue than to fire him. My point was that I don't believe it is an excuse but instead a must. And I don't see any reason to fire her since she took appropriate and swift action like she should only four months into her career at that position.

Can't believe EMU pulled out the win after all this. Good for them.

Wow, that 'speech' was really something else. Coach should have followed a very vital life lesson, think before you speak!

Naw, I'm pretty sure they would. Now I have to admit, if he were a short, skinny Asian with a high squeaky voice, I think people would probably just laugh.
