Looking at the video, I'm wondering how well the "watermarked" dragon will show up on TV. It didn't really stand out in the video. We still don't know what if any thing is along the sidelines. The newer courts have had something like a skyline or beach scape.

I would agree that hoops being called A-B in NEW media is rare, but it is far from that in mainstream sports media (ESPiN, CBS Sports, AP, Yahoo!, etc.) - electronic or print. More critically, it is VERY common in every broadcast of UAB men's hoops aside from our own radio team. Anyone tuning in on TV is going to see "A-B" on their TV guide and hear it from the mouths of the play-by-play and color commentator (moreso the latter, generally).

*shrug* If nothing else it will make it difficult to avoid being an obvious troll and tool when someone does use A-B on-air with a humongous "U-A-B" spanning arc-to-arc. It's also near impossible to defend when Mackin gets someone's ear on the subject.

You are far from right regarding TV. In basketball, It might appear on the guide, but that is the cable provider, not the network usually. It is almost always shown as UAB when showing the score or when the announcer references it. That includes ESPN and all networks.

TV announcers and play-by-play people still fall back to "Alabama-Birmingham" on occasion. This should reinforce "UAB" as the preference...

So, I must be the only fan who had no idea the volleyball court is under the basketball court . I guess I thought they took up one when they put down the other.

"On occasion" are the key words. Blazr said it is far from rare that we are called A-B. We are almost always called UAB on TV

You're correct. The crawl and graphics (score during the game) always use "UAB". But broadcast teams, whether on TV or opponents' radio, are constantly using "A-B" (Gillen is terrible about it and Houston's play-by-play guy reached levels where he HAD to have been intentionally demeaning and/or insulting) and articles/wire stories/blog posts/etc. from the major outlets refuse to let it go.

Now you are talking about local broadcast teams and old farts like Gillen. I thought we were talking mainstream like ESPN. They are not "constantly doing it".

Where I see it most is TV channel guides. Otherwise it is an occasional mention by professional broadcasters, of which I don't include Gillian or the old fart who does Houston games.

And we aren't talking about print media. See my original post on the subject.

It looked good on TV, however, I'm still not a huge fan of the UAB in the middle of the court. I just don't like the cartoonish flames..

Sadly, a new baby and busy job lead to very little down time. Haven't had a chance to make it down to Birmingham at all this year. Been relying on game/coach bashing threads for updates.

It looks much better on TV than the pics, IMO. I liked it to begin with, but after seeing it under the full lights on TV, I REALLY like how it looks. The greyed-out Blaze under each basket looks fantastic! Also, really like BIRMINGHAM on the sides of the court. Miss the old Blaze at half-court, but the other things make up for that, especially with Blaze in so many other prominent places throughout the arena (scoreboards, etc). The whole package looks good together.
