Football programs and number of games played in the NFL
How many NFL games have been played by players from particular college football programs? Here are the top 20 as of this past Sunday. Note that 19 are from P5 conferences and the other is #1 Notre Dame: 6 are from the SEC, 5 are from the B1G, 3 from the PAC, 3 from the ACC, and 2 from the Big 12. This corresponds pretty closely to the power of those conferences. You have to go down to #37 (San Diego State) before a G5 program shows up:

Also, while UCLA is (to me) a surprise at #9, otherwise this list very closely conforms to who the "blue chip" brand name programs are.

1) Notre Dame ... 26,135
2) USC ............. 25,393
3) Ohio State .... 21,602
4) Penn State ... 19,576
5) Michigan ....... 18,139
6) Miami ........... 17,858
7) Tennessee .... 17,297
8) Nebraska ...... 17,071
9) UCLA ........... 16,890
10) LSU ........... 16,359
11) Texas ........ 15,378
12) Georgia ...... 15,046
13) Alabama ..... 14,824
14) Florida ........ 14,662
15) Texas AM .... 14,614
16) Oklahoma .... 14,402
17) Pitt ............ 14,177
18) Michigan St...14,133
19) FSU ............ 14,039
20) Arizona St ... 13,980

Once at this page, click on the "G" tab to sort by games played:

I'm not surprised by UCLA. They always get good talent.

Let's just say nobody has ever really put it together but the second best school in California always churns out great athletes.

Maybe because it's a basketball culture?

The one I cannot understand (even thought its not on the list) is University of Virginia. They should be competing for ACC titles every year.

Virginia is at #43, and that puts them ahead of schools like West Virginia, Virginia Tech, Arizona, Missouri, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Kansas State, and South Carolina.

That does indeed make their weak on-field performance rather mystifying.
