Endowment
Saw this posting on another board about OU. What is the endowment at UT in comparison to OU

“We’re all about, frankly, how do we become a billion dollar foundation?” Benchoff said. “When we arrive anywhere close to that point, I think we will be very close to conducting our operations in a self-sufficient manner.”

RE: Endowment
OU is just over $400 million and UT is around $200 million. Ohio State and Cincinnati are the only two state schools in Ohio with endowments over $1 billion. For OU to reach that, they better hope the stock market remains bullish for a while.

RE: Endowment
The reported UT endowment as of 2012 was actually $311M. $215M is the listed assets.

To be honest I never have understood that discrepancy ... may have to do with promised gifts/pledges not yet received. Not sure. Always meant to ask one of the gift officers about it.

Donating to the endowment is easy, and and can be made in any amount. There are numerous funds to choose from that support various aspects of the university. The Rocket Fund supports athletics, and as I recall you can request which sport you want your funds to go toward, as they have sub-accounts.

UT historically has not had as many of the big pocket donors as a lot of schools, but if lots of alumni give small amounts, that too can add up. Having a large endowment can help offset costs and can allow more money to be spent on things like coaches salaries and the like.

MAC school endowments from the Chronicle of Higher Education 6/30/2012. In millions:

Buffalo $512
Ohio $408
Miami $387
Toledo $310
WMU $207
Akron $168
BSU $165
BG $129
Kent $109 **
CMU $81
NIU $51
EMU $50

** Did not report, however, a 2011 newspaper article said the endowment value was $109.1 M.
