I thought "relationships" were frowned upon at Texas.

Meh. These guys move around so much and most of those sorts of realignment decisions really are up to the presidents. I think way too many people are reading way too much into such moves.

Isn't the LHN Dodds' baby? And didn't He1nousOne post a video of Dodds saying the future of Texas was looking east, not west?
Well, I doubt this hire in itself is indicative of anything, but perhaps the new AD might be a little more receptive to the PAC idea which would require ditching the LHN.

very true although i think a big part of the old ADs canning was because his ultimate fate is tied with the success of his decision to stay in the b12. and that decision isnt playing out as well as people thought and he paid for it.
thats just my take on it. a lot of texas blogs seem to point to growing internal dissent about the decision to choose the b12 over the pac16

Joining any conference other than the XII would require ditching the LHN, unless a conference was willing to do a ND/ACC-esque deal and ESPN were willing to modify the LHN to only show football.

thats not necessarily true. the p12 doesnt have a true national network by 7 individual regional networks. so a big chunk of the LHN can be kept & incorporated into the p12 network as the 8th regional network however its gonna need a name change, and it must be subjected to equal revenue sharing by the other pac12 schools.
the car will be gutted, but the body of the car can be kept.

So yeah, change the parameters, the revenue stream, and the name, but it's still the same thing? Get real. And the PAC-12 Network is alive and well (I know because I have it on my cable system in Florida), but it does have issues with carriage nationally, but like the LHN, that will change.

dude the LHN doesnt have a shot at picking things up. if they cant get rolling in year 3 its time to throw in the towel on it being a successful network

The LHN is on major carriers now. They are working on adding Comcast, Dish & DirectTV. The already have Fios, TWC (and subsidiaries), and other smaller cable companies. It's moving to what ESPN had envisioned it to be.

they have been working on adding them for years, TWC was the first true major carrier to pick em up and that was a desperation move on twc's part because they just dropped cbs sports and need sports programming quick. fios TV has only 4.4 million cable subscribers, comcast has 30 million cable subscribers.
the LHN is way behind the curve, networks that dont do this well in year 3 dont really succeed.

@ChuckCarltonDMN 6m
Told that Steve Patterson will make $1.4 million per year on a 5-year contract as Texas' new AD. DeLoss Dodds was making $1.1 million.

Texas does have a money problem...so much money they can't spend it all. This could be round one of a hostile take over.

The LHN is on every major cable channel in the state. They have made huge progress this year.
