What I don't recall seeing in the past, is so many teams jumping undefeated teams this late in the year.... Frustrating.

+1. It is incredibly frustrating trying to figure out the polls.

The question there is do we really need to care about UCF. It would seem that when it is all said and done, history tells us Fresno or NIU is going to be top 12 if they run the table. I noticed that Balls was up to 12 back in 2008 and that was with two other non-AQ teams above them so I think that we end up top 12 if we run the table.

I do think we need to worry about UCF. They are moving up quickly and a win over a one-loss (although crappy) Houston team while NIU is idle might be all the voters need to move them ahead of us, especially if they look at their quality win over Louisville and close loss to South Carolina. Back in 2008, the voters weren't quite as in love with every one or two-loss SEC team as they are today. That's one reason why why Balls was able to move up to 12. Time to root for the Cougars!

At least NIU has a prime time game and a good opponent coming up, right? Hard for anyone to ignore it.

Ignore it. Ball State is a good opponent no matter what anyone says. And, btw, "2-5 Virginia" did beat BYU. Three of their losses were to Oregon, Clemson and Georgia Tech. Some tough teams in the ACC.

The pollsters are not going to look that deep into it.

Ball State is a good opponent. You know it and I know it.

That's what I've been saying about the difference between the Rutgers win for Fresno and Iowa win for NIU. Rutgers and Iowa are in the same conference with roughly the same record. Nobody cares for the little differences that make the Iowa win better.

Rutgers and Iowa are not in the same conference...yet.

Big Ten is head and shoulders above the AAC. Rutgers needed a 4th down conversion/20+ yard TD pass with 30 seconds remaining to beat pathetic Temple. Compare Iowa to Boise...not Rutgers.

RE: Harris Poll for 11/3
And Fresno is not playing Colorado, which would give them more beef and logical reasoning to be a bit above NIU right now.

But essentially, even though the MW is having a down year, wins are just going to "be better" in that conference than the MAC. Seeing NIU play Akron, EMU, WMU, CMU, UMass... it just makes it seem like NIU has an easier schedule than Fresno.

But when you factor in Ball State & Toledo, the conference play in reg season tightens up. When it comes to votes, it's about perception though. Thankfully, those two games will be on TV for everyone to see, which may give NIU a bump.

I don't think either will make the Top 12 if they both go undefeated. But possible, depending on the margin of victories & how the other teams above them fare. A collapse like last year to propel them up? Possibly, but don't hold breath.

You're right about Rutgers, but I don't think Iowa and Rutgers are viewed all that differently is the point.

In the Harris poll, LSU move up one slot since Miami lost. On a bye week, it's all about the teams around you. If the teams ahead of you lose, you move up. If the teams behind you have big wins, they jump you. It's that simple.

Last time we had a bye week we lost votes.
