You can't compare Callaway to McGee. Callaway coached almost three years before he had anything close to the 85 scholarship players allowed by the NCAA. McGee has more talent than any Callaway team by far. Comparing Callaway to Zero may work though. 05-stirthepot

All of his thoughts and facts have to do with UAB sucking. And attendance. And sometimes money. But it's mostly UAB bashing.

I have no respect for him, and I will jump at every opportunity to ridicule him. One of my life goals is to make him feel bad about himself. Spit Fire.

Blazer fans need to grow up.

News flash: UAB football does suck. We have horrible attendance and we don't have any money. Nothing he posted today had anything to do with that.

Since this is a Solomon thread, I'll go ahead and throw out that I was pleasantly surprised at the crowd today, after two poorly attended games. Sadly, that will be our only 20k+ game all year.

Yes we have bad attendance and have had bad records. When we turn this around and we will. I dare say Solomon still won't have much nice to say. Which is fine because I won't be paying any attention to anything he says except through word of mouth and even then I don't care about his unprofessional opinion.

I wasn't pleasantly surprised. I was blown away. I almost couldn't park in a stadium lot. I got there right at kickoff, and I was worried about having to park across the street. That was huge. It sucks to lose in front of that many people, because now we probably won't see them again until next year, but kudos to the casual fans for having the strength to drag themselves to one whole football game this year. With out record, and after that disaster-and-a-half against the pretend team, I was expecting about 9,000.

Alabama was off. That is why the crowd was good. Maybe we should move to spring football.

I'd be alright playing all non-Saturday games if 20,000 people would show up all the time. Auburn had a game, but it was in Arkansas so no one was at that one.

Brown is not our best coach. Our best coach remains Jim Hilyer. I wish people would remember him. He was the best thing that ever happened to UAB football, and as much as I love everything Gene Bartow, not letting him coach UAB into Division I remains, in my opinion, Gene's biggest mistake.

I think jumping up to Division I so soon, especially up to I-A, was a much bigger mistake that we have not recovered from.

Yep, hilyer was the best when it came to beating schools for the deaf and the like. Don't know if he could have competed with a real schedule.

No it wasn't.

Alabamans only support big time football. We would not have built support remaining a lower division. Plus the window was open to get not what was believed to be a major conference at the time. You can say with hindsight it was wrong, but if you weren't there and understand what was in play, you can't make that judgement.

And whatever Bamanblazerfan posts next about losing d1 status in basketball if we didn't move up in football is untrue. That came later.

Do sacks count as runs?
They count against the total rushing yards... Not sure if they count as actual rushes, but as they count negatively against total rushing yards, I assume they do.

RE: Solomon tweet
There is some truth to it. UAB was forced from D3 football to DI by NCAA rule change in 1991 that required all division I institutions to conduct all sports on the division I level by 1993.

What many forget is although the NCAA did force such institutions to move their non-scholarship D3 teams up, the NCAA also allowed creation of a Division I non-scholarship subdivision that was commonly reffered to at the time as D1-AAA. (NOTE DI-AAA now most often refers to non-football playing DI members). UAB could have opted that route as Dayton did. So, in that sense UAB while forced to move up was not forced to enter the world of scholarship football

How long did UTSA spend at a lower division/subdivision?

I just don't understand how anyone believes this. Callaway had so much more size and Joe Webb. The teams from the past two years aren't even close to being as talented as the 2009 team.
