I think to most folks in the conference, this isn't a surprise. The bigger question will come next year when it's not new and McDermott is gone. That's realistic.

This is what your answer could have been:
"Wow, great job by Creighton selling 2000 BET tickets in a week. I thought they'd do a great job with this because McDermott is an All-America and the Bluejays will be Final Four contenders this year, but they've exceeded expectations. Hoping they can duplicate this every year! Go Big East...!"

Instead, you decided to write a bitter, concern-troll paragraph. Nice job.

+1,000,000.......until VCU gets added to the Big East, stever will not say anything positive about the Big East.

I don't usually agree with Stevers post but he has a valid point in this thread.

Wow you guys are just something else.

Its like you guys weren't expecting the fans to be excited. Why in the hell wouldn't they be excited this year? And I have no clue how you are getting this to me saying something bad about the Big East. I'm just saying it's not a shock that there would be a ton of tickets sold to Creighton for the BET this year. 1st time in there and last time with their best player ever.

i'd be curious to hear how the tourney sales are going at the other schools. I know they have put in this year a requirement that each school sell 750 tickets. I'd be kind of worried with a school like a DePaul quite frankly that they would never make that in the status they are right now.

I didn't realize that if you're a big east fan you have to be a flaming homer. what a joke.

I wasn't even slamming the big east. It's just not the most astounding thing in the world that they would travel in droves this year to the BET.

you should add in "shaka" and "dreamy" once in a while. And a few "VCU superlative(s)"

You weren't slamming the Big East just making it seem like what Creighton did was ho hum. They sold almost 2000 tix to the BE tourny before the season even started. Thats an amazing feat. Far from ho hum.

They're an excited new to the BE fan base. I don't see why it is so shocking that they would want to go to the BET- the best tournament in the country. I mean, if Butler or Xavier had a team like what Creighton has this year- would you be shocked if they had 2000 tix sold? I don't..

stever walks a fine line between being a pessimist and realist (appearing to fall more towards the former to most people). this perception likely colors every one of his posts that people read. the initial post he made IMO did not put down CU's accomplishment nor regulate it to being ho hum. CU has a well founded reputation for great attendance and fan support (WS fan opinions notwithstanding) so the tickets weren't a SHOCK. Again, that is not to say it wasn't impressive nor a noteworthy accomplishment or that another fanbase could easily reproduce the results. Just that with CU's fans, it wasn't shocking. If any fanbase could do it, it would be our blue and white brethren from omaha. And yes, there are some extra incentive in it being year one and a potential POY.

About the distance argument however... stever, the conference party line is that it's acceptable in a competitive sense where it only matters to the schools and the scholar athletes. no one is mentioning it it terms of inconveniencing fans or their support.

I can give you that. Only question to that is how much more expensive to fly from Omaha to New York City than it is from say Milwaukee to New York City? (I know sometimes there can be a huge difference).
