RE: McGee Turns to Perry / D needs to Step Up
If UAB can reduce the times our offense goes "3 & out" so the opposition offense is confined to their bench for more time, our defense might improve greatly. More offensive plays, even without a score every time, would give Mullens a chance to pin the other team deeper in their own end than what we have seen so far. "3 & out" often means punting "back to midfield", not deep into their territory. There can be more "defensive slack" possible when the opposition has to start from around their own 10 to 15 yard line rather than midfield.
It remains a TEAM game after all.

RE: McGee Turns to Perry / D needs to Step Up
I just watched the Rice vs. UNT game and thought to myself that our best teams played defense. One reason I don't think McGee will be successful, is I don't think he will focus enough energy on creating a great defense. All the recruits with the most hype are on the offense and they are WRs and RBs. On D we keep recruiting DBs like that is the major problem. Good defense starts up front. Until we stock the line with some studs again, the D will continue to suck. The UNT D looked like the real deal tonight.
IMO, switching to the 3-4 was McGee's lame attempt to cover up our weakness on the line. UCF did not have to switch to the 3-4 because they were strong up front. UNT looked like they were strong up front too. I don't think we have had a real D-Line since the year I graduated. That was also the year big Shamar Abrams graduated.
