But for those complaining about the flag being picked up on the UH PI on the next drive, the uncatchable ball rule applied. If the UH WR would have caught the ball or even touched it, the flag might not have been picked up. But the ball wasn't close enough to the receiver.

Bottom line is that USF was flagged a mind-boggling 19 times while UH was only flagged 4 times. Smells strongly of home cooking. 07-coffee3

Majority of USF penalties though were self inflicted.

I can tell you though of the Yankee accented refs in the Rutgers Houston game last week where we had 10 holding calls in the first half (or so it seemed). That screamed home cooking.

A million false starts, illegal procedures and stupid personal foul penalties does not spell home cooking to me. It spells a lack of discipline.

A million false starts, illegal procedures and stupid personal foul penalties does not spell home cooking to me. It spells a lack of discipline.

7 false starts (generally not a controversial call unless defense caused it)
1 illegal shift (again not controversial)
1 substitution infraction (guy running off the field past our players. easy call)
2 face masks (questioning these?)
3 holds
2 PIs
1 personal foul
1 Unnecessary roughness
1 Unsportsmanlike

So at least 11 of those are pretty easy. Other than the 1 PI, I don't remember much about the rest of them.

UH's
Illegal block (7 yards 1/2 the distance) really about 23 yards since it was a kickoff return that wound up about the 30 yard line.
Intentional grounding (technically 0, but really about 15 yards since it is a spot foul, loss of down, and 10 seconds)
PI (11 yards)
Unsportsmanlike (15 yards)

So all of UH's penalties were major ones.

Other than the 1 offensive PI penalty, what was called on USF that you didn't think should be called? Other than the 1 offensive PI penalty on UH (uncatchable ball), what should have been called on UH that wasn't?

Also NTX - the awful call on Farrow that killed a crucial drive in the 4th when we were up only 28-23.

RE: Official Houston vs South Florida game thread
Went through game again. After we went up 21-10 quickly. We held USF to three straight punts. Problem was we had 2 punts and then ran out of time at the end of the 1st half. Could have put the game away was just stymied by USF.

Opening drive in the 2nd half was a killer, because we were being methodical and basically were about to make it 28-10 with a full second half to play. However, Jackson fumbled into the endzone changing everything.

Taggert was shrewd. He kept our offense off the field with 2 long FG drives accounting for 9 mins of the 3rd. What did Houston do in after those drives? A quick TD to Greenberry then a Ward three and out.

However, the third USF drive was a killer. A 14 play drive that took up 7 minutes. USF went for it on 4th and 2 to score on that fade at back corner of the endzone making it 28-23 with 11 left in the 4th.

Once O'Korn got back on the field, he hadn't really had any snaps at all in the 2nd half. Comes back on, I thought offensively we would get back in a rhythm but 15 yard unsportsmanlike call on Farrow killed the drive. Thus, another punt giving USF the ball again.

Defense tho, even tho being on the field entire 2nd half, steps up and forces a punt. Only for Payne to fumble it right back to USF with great field position.

So USF gets the ball, again. Then you had the offensive PI (which again, was the right call IMO) - then Bowser forcing fumble.

We get the ball back and march right down to put the game away.

Trevon then intercepts Mike White to seal it.

It was a great job of clock mgmt to keep Coogs O off the field. But our D stepped up even tho being on the field entire 2nd half.

The only thing I knew about that call was that it would add fuel to the fire of "Houston got gifted!!!!". Don't care. We won by 12 which is what we should have won by. South Florida did some really really dumb stuff besides the million false starts. No excuse for the personal foul calls. And they even missed one where they almost ripped Ward's helmet off by grabbing his facemask. Very undisciplined. But they have some big boys on that team.

Agree with the poster about why we put Ward in when O'Korn was rolling. That was a quick 3 and out when the game was getting tight. Also agree that Jackson fumbling into the endzone was a killer. Gave USF more life.

Our corners have been picked on this year and the secondary has had better days but I thought the loft ups over the middle were brilliant plays for USF and there was at times tight coverage (QB just put the ball on the money) and there were blown coverages. I think the D will learn obviously from a few things tonight.

Attedance. LOL all I can say is things will get better once we move into the new stadium. Many of my buddies stayed home to play with the kiddo's and watch the game on ESPN. It didn't help that it flooded the night prior. "Excuses are for ********" well 03-drunk

7-1 with a Freshman QB and Freshman/Sophomore's all over the starting sides. I'll take it 04-rock BRING ON UCF! 04-chairshot

Great post. Right on. 04-bow
