USA Today: Progress report on first-time head coaches
http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nca...s/3311799/

Quote:Rod Carey, Northern Illinois: He picked up where Dave Doeren left off and has the Huskies 8-0, eyeing their second consecutive BCS berth. A matchup with 8-1 Ball State on Nov. 13 will decide the team's fate, but Carey looks primed to keep this program relevant for a long time to come.

I hope long time to come means at least 5 years.

And I hope he sticks around for at least that amount of time!

If he gets a job offer for a million $$...he's gone. You know it & I know it. Coach Joe stuck around because he was nearing the end of his career and nobody offered him the big bucks to leave. The younger coaches...well, we all know how everyone like to mine the MAC for coaches.

And they usually like to take the coordinators and assistants with them. This is what turns my stomach. At least Dave Doeren was considerate and left us something, and it was something great! I will always have respect for DD.

Money talks. It's hard to blame these guys. How many of us would turn down - 300% pay increase to go to company most people perceive as a better organization? Just saying so long as we are winning the revolving door will keep moving.

I don't know how theses schools take our coaches without ever knowing if they can recruit. DD is just having his guys come online. Carey seems ok but I don't know if that ah shucks routine will play ling term, I didn't like it from Kill either. That is why I liked DD so much - he seemed like a top level guy

Wow. That is an impressive quote.

Carey was smart enough not to screw it up. Keep in mind that 16 months ago, he was the off. line coach. Carey has the cheapest salary/win ratio in football.
