Very nice! We now have our AD, football coach, and both basketball coaches under long term deals.

I'd like to see how this season finishes out before I call this a good move...

Does it mean anything, anyway? He can still leave when he wants, right? And we can still fire him. We'll just have to eat the rest of his contract.

These contracts only protect the coach. If a coach stops winning and gets fired, they still get paid the rest of the contract. If they keep winning and leave for a big payday, their new employer will pay the buyout. Nothing against Campbell, it's just a feel good story that doesn't mean much unless he wants to make a career of coaching at Toledo.

Reportedly he's getting a 60K bump in pay, and the contract buyout goes up be 30K the next 2 years.

RE: Campbell Signs Contract Extension
At his start I wanted three years out of him. Last season I firmly believe the tater bowl champ would have landed in Wisconsin. What jobs are open now? USC, uconn, maybe Minnesota with kill retiring? Not sure. But I think he is locked up until the end of next season. The three early losses out him off the radar. He could be back on it in a hurry if we win out....but still. Campbell probably has a short list of schools he would go to. Toledo is a great place right now with our scheduling and tallent. Our future continues to be bright.

It's a very fair deal. The best part is the increased buy-out which will likely come into play if Campbell can put up at least 8 wins this year and next since so many major conference schools have revolving doors at the head coach position.

Why wouldn't any lateral move with greatly increased pay or any major conference job be on a MAC coach's list?
Colorado State reportedly pays its coach $1.5M. That would be one heck of a lateral move.
When Pinkel left UT for Missouri it was for base pay, marketing and incentives of $900k annual.
