If that's the case Akron should easily go undefeated in MAC play and win the NCAA bid without breaking much of a sweat. Fortunately, every freshman looks like an All-MAC player against Bluffton. No, all four of your freshmen would not get significant minutes on any other MAC team.

None of the freshmen looked like an all-MAC player. None of them looked like they didn't belong on the court with the Akron players who have already made an all-MAC team, however. A few years ago, all of them would have started for the Zips as true freshmen. Now we're trying to figure out which two or three should be redshirted.

In these exhibition games, it's not about how they play against the competition, but how good they look in comparison to the upperclassmen at the same position.

That said, all four WOULD get significant minutes at any other MAC team. Even Toledo.05-stirthepot

When do they play Bloatsburg?

Weak. Akron plays a strong schedule this year.
@St. Mary's
@Cleveland State
@Middle Tennessee
Vs. Oral Roberts
Vs. Detroit
Vs. Oregon State (Hawaii)
vs. Iowa State/George Mason (Hawaii)
vs. St. Mary's/South Carolina/Boise State (Hawaii)
@ South Carolina
vs. Marshall

I know people like to knock Akron's past schedules, but KD has stepped up up the competition the last couple of years.

If you're going to take the time to list 10 of their 14 OOC games, why not just mention Coastal Carolina, Malone, Bethune Cookman, and Coppin State too? I think Coastal will be better than Marshall this year.

But yes I agree the scheduling has improved. The better teams need to keep scheduling well, especially given The new NCAA payout method.

Kent State is playing a couple of closed games against Robert Morris and St Bonaventure. I figure that's not so good as playing Bluffton, Kalamazoo, Northwood, Ashland, St Vincent St Mary's, or Detroit Central High like the rest of the MAC is trying. I heard through the grapevine that we played Robert Morris 'pretty even'.

Of course, that was 5 guys from Kent on the floor against just Robert Morris. I wonder what position Morris played. I'm sure he would have been tired by the end of the game.

Maybe he was. The night before he beat William and Mary and their suffocating full court coregency press.

Ohio scrimmaged Xavier on the 19th. The final score was something like OU by 8. There had been a picture of the stat sheet floating around on twitter, but it looks like it was taken down, I can't get the link to load anymore. There were a few players that had 7 fouls, from all reports it was tough for both teams to get used to the new hand check rules. I remember being surprised Ohio hit so many of their free throws.

Oh, and just ask last years Kentucky team how tough that Robert Morris guy is...

I hear St Bonaventure is another guy that can take on a college team single handedly. He plays a tough center and will put you on the floor if you try driving the lane on him.

Pretty big deal for local bragging rights, I would think. when you see some poor sucker down at the local watering hole wearing a Kzoo College shirt you can feel all smug and sh!t.

Not to channel my inner Kit-Kat, but we had 5,742 in attendance for the exhibition.

Am not 100% positive, but I'd venture to guess that might be more than any other MAC school had in attendance for a regular season game last year. 04-rock

You would be mistaken. Only checked one game: BG at UT but well over 6,000 for that one.

That figure is exactly 30 more people than Toledo had in their win against Kent last year in Savage Arena...ladies' basketball that is. 5712.

Still not sure how in the world Toledo gets that many for women's basketball. I know they're good (and have been for years) but that is unreal...a true "outlier" of the college basketball world.

I'm probably a little off on exact the number but surprisingly enough, that is only good for like the #22 spot in terms of attendance throughout the country. I think Ohio State averages just a little more and I would have to assume that Tennessee and UConn also average more but not sure who the rest are.

Wow, 5742 is more than I expected. Last year if I recall correctly (which I may not) we had just over 4k for the exhibition. Was expecting a little less than that...
I have a hunch that season ticket sales are up this year. Program is coming along. Get these recruits going. Get attendance up closer to 10k as much as possible.
