Yep... even in a loss, some Marshall fans on here are still arrogant pricks.

...BUT... the board certainly is a lot more pleasant without Banker, BleedsGreen, HerdZoned, MUATO posting today.

Hahahaha... My favorite poster on this board (next to Tallgrass)... I saw this title and thought, wow, maybe he's showing some class. Then that glorious backhanded compliment... LOL.

Every year it's the same chest pounding from herd fans. I'm still waiting for... well, anything of note.

RE: CONGRATULATIONS Middle Tennessee!
Here's what I saw at last night's game, in the order of importance to the outcome:

1. MTSU's dominated line play when the Raiders had the ball. I don't think we put any pressure on Kilgore, and there were some gaping holes for three talented runners. Kilgore also had a decent night passing the ball.
2. Our defense was worn down by game's end.
3. The blocked punt TD and the TD at the close of the first half were crucial.
4. The Herd didn't show up to play until well into the first half. When we were up 21-14, I thought we were starting to come alive.
5. Dropped passes were critical.

There were other factors, to be sure, but in the end MTSU outplayed the Herd and deserves the win, although MU had its chance to win. This past summer, i called this a Herd loss. I hate to be right on that score. My 8-4 prediction still looks pretty solid, but we have to go 4-1 in the last 5 to get there...a tall order with both TUlsa (on the road) and ECU left, and I never count out UAB or USM.

There in lies your problem. I think everyone expected Marshall to improve some, I said 7 or 8 wins before the season. That's the natural progression of returning players. Their fans were talking about them in terms of going from 5 wins to double digit wins plus or even BCS busting potential which was pretty ridiculous . It's pretty rare to make a leap like that and if you do there is usually an underlying reason like #1 a weaker SOS, #2 major injuries to players at key positions like Kenum a few years ago that kept you down, #3 a super star emerging out of no where at 1 of the 2 major impact positions of QB or RB, #4 a new head coach, OC, DC. I mean Marshall might have a sorrier SOS this year but it's not like Cato could play any better than he did last season so they were going to have a hard time improving an entire defense even if they happened to have hired a competent DC.

Did not last night game announcer say "Marshall had no players on scholarship from state of West Virginia." If true that is sad.

They said WV only produced 1 FBS signing last year total. That's pretty amazing. I'm sure there are at least 2 or 3 from the mountains of NC a year. Got to be.

Agree 100%......it would be funny if Cusa East Division finishes in three way tied with ECU first (BCS standing), MTSU second (victory over Marshall), and Marshall third (Phil Steele most improved team).
Those individuals listed above would have to go to the emergency rooms for treatment.......bad case of "still no division or Cusa football Championship":(

Two-team or multiple team tie for divisional champion:
1. Highest regular season winning percentage based on overall Conference USA play.
2. If tied, head to head between tied teams.
3. If still tied, highest winning percentage within division.
4. If still tied, compare records against divisional opponents in descending order of finish.
5. If still tied, compare records with common cross-divisional opponents.
6. If still tied, compare records against cross-divisional opponents in descending order of finish.
7. If still tied, team with highest BCS ranking.
8. If still tied, the representative will be the team that has not participated in the championship game most recently.
9. If at any point the tie is broken in a multiple team tie, the remaining teams will begin the process again at #2.

To decide who hosts the C-USA Championship Game:
1) Highest regular season winning percentage based on overall Conference USA play.
2) If tied, head to head between tied teams.
3) If still tied, team with highest BCS ranking.

Entertaining game. Congrats to both teams. Either could have won. In the end, congrats MTSU.

As a long time West Virginian, we wish it weren't so (same applies to West Virginia, who has one Scholarship player from WV, I believe.) West Virginia is a very small, very poor state. There are only 3 divisions of football, with the largest being (or used to be) only 500+ kids in the school. Remember the two largest cities in the State (Huntington and Charleston) have less than 50,000 people, in total, the last time I looked. There just aren't that many kids in the STate who are good enough to play at either the P5 or G5 level. When there are, they usually end up at WVU. It's why Marshall AND WVU both relay so heavily on southern football for recruiting. Without it, neither school could field a football team.

It is sad, but it is true.

RE: CONGRATULATIONS Middle Tennessee!
Most of the last post is true.

Huntington and Charleston are the biggest cities with around or slightly less than 50k people. Some cities are more populated than our whole state with roughly 1.8 million people. We do only have 3 classes for sports, but the biggest is schools with 778 kids or more.

We probably average around 5 D1 players per year. Marshall and WVU are just pricks and expect them all to walk on with an in state scholarship for all kids with good grades. Then they offer scholarships once other teams do, and sometimes those kids leave our state. Like that Switzer kid who went to UNC playing as a true freshman. We lose kids to the MAC schools that Marshall thinks were better than, but still lose to them lol.

The people of WV don't have the money to send their kids to recruiting camps of any sort for the most part. Only going to get worse with more coal mines laying people off. On top of that, we don't have a large population to draw from.

Almost every team in West Virginia plays iron man football. Big difference when a kid somewhere else is practicing one position all day every day. He will be more prepared for college football at that position than the kid from WV.

Sorry to jump on the soap box here, but WV produces more than 1 D1 player per year despite all the other factors.

Thanks for the corrections, but it doesn't change the bottom line much. We still need to rely on out of state players.
