Yep, cool stuff. If only the team had 1 more walk-on who graduated, maybe that would have bumped Rice up to #1!

What's really impressive are the women's teams. Basketball, soccer, tennis and volleyball were all at 100% graduation rates. Swimming was 95% and cross country/track was 89%.

What was Men's Basketball? Was our number there totally destroyed by the mass defection? Or do transfers not hurt our graduation percentage?

I don't know your answer, but it would depend on whether the transfers were in good standing at the time they left. If we presume they were, then we don't get hurt.

While certainly impressive as the overall GSR of the school is only about 89%... I've always marveled (in a bad way) at the schools with GSRs of their non-rev/non-pro track sports with GSRs of 60% or below. What are those people doing if not using sports as a way to pay for college?

Men's Basketball GSR was 86, tied for #62 if I counted right. Around 42 schools had perfect 100s in MBB.

Don't they still have to graduate from somewhere? i.e. since Kazemi graduated from Oregon, he'd count the same as if he stayed graduated at Rice, but since Ibrahim bailed back to his home country, he'd count the same as a dropout, regardless of standing when he left. If someone left Rice not in good standing, but graduated elsewhere, he'd count against the score. That's been my understanding, for good or bad.

This story was actually covered by 97.5 FM sports talk. I was amazed.

I hope Rice will actually promote this. Some college football fans actually care.

My guess is that they use sports only to get into college, not necessarily to graduate. Not that I can understand that mindset, though.

Some funny comments from Coogfans on the 57% grad rate of football.

"The data is based from 2006. It was the most current data the NCAA had apparently. I am not sure why it would be posted 7 years later.

Things have obviously changed"

***************

"Thank you for making my point.....Old pointless data people......we are debating irrelevant information."

****************

In response to a tweet from Brett McMurphy on the grad rates of AAC schools with UH at bottom.

"Why post this junk here from that guy.....I want concrete proof, not some statistic pulled off a website or from past performances.......Did McMurphy actually look at each student athletes grade reports from their senior year at each school and check to see if the actually met graduation standards??! I suspect these are lazy passed down numbers that are made up. Ask Case and some of our other outstanding athletes how well they did at UH......total trash that need not to be posted on this board...."

Those posts alone certainly reflect the grad rates at UH.03-lmfao
