Has Rakeem Cato regressed?
His stats this year would suggest that he has. But I have heard a lot of Herd fans blaming the play calling instead. I do think he should have a big game tonight & should finish the season with respectable numbers.

Cato certainly set a high standard for himself last season & he isn't having a bad year so far this season per se but what are the main reasons that he is he failing to match what he did last year?

Lost his OC didn't he?

He'll still pass for 400 yards against us.

RE: Has Rakeem Cato regressed?
Yes and no. You cannot just look at pure stats because Doc said in camp we would be a better offense but not have the same stats. Meaning we were going to be more balanced and Cato would not be throwin the ball 40-60 times a game.

Now I believe his mechanics and his accuracy has regressed because Tony Peterson is gone. Tony is a genius QB coach. He molded Chad and Byron into first round draft picks and two of the best to ever play the position in college. With him gone Bill Legg who has never coached QBs and has been an OLineman all his life took over the duty of QB coach. While he can teach Cato more in depth stuff when it comes to his offense as he is the OC he knows squat about being a QB.

I said when it was announced that Tony was going to LaTech the was going to hurt Cato's development severely.

nah, the outside receivers aren't quite as good as last year and the coaches have slowed down the offense to help the defense.

Several things have happened, one we lost some very experienced seniors at WR, two the O-Line imo, isn't as good as advertised, and three he still doesn't understand the zone read. I personally would love to see Blake Frohnapel get a shot. He is a better runner and the way our oline is playing the qb needs to be able to run.

No Bill Legg is still there. We lost Tony Petersen who is wasting away his talent at LA Tech.

We don't have a true deep threat this year either. MooMoo is quick and all and Im glad he is on our side but the kid is 5'7 at best. This should be fixed come next season with Anjelo Jean Louis and Deanty McManus.

Since we don't have a deep threat a lot of teams like FAU will play bump and run coverage and double and even triple teaming either Tommy Shuler or Gator Hoskins. We need either Craig Wilkins or Jazz King to step up big time in the 2nd half of the season.

Last year at this time Marshall was 2-4 midway through the season and 1-1 in CUSA. This year we are 4-2 and 2-0 with a chance to go 5-2 and 3-0 in CUSA.

You can't play man or zone against Tommy Shuler. He requires a double team or a spy if he stays in the slot, but you better be ready to gang tackle when he gets the ball.

If Peterson is as good as ya'll say then he really is being wasted here. Obviously Skip has handcuffed the heck out of him. Our play calling is almost unbearable.

No but he had an input in those play calls. I am starting to believe he was the creative one.

RE: Has Rakeem Cato regressed?
I'm really looking forward to watching him tonight! This year, I've only seen him in action against VT and he actually looked better against the Hokies then Carden did (in bad weather no doubt).

It's really hard for me to try and not pull for the Herd. The way I see it is, with our remaining schedule, if we lose another game then we don't deserve the Crown anyway. C-USA really needs a #22 ECU (9-2, 6-1 CUSA) vs. #24 Marshall (9-2, 7-0 C-USA) matchup for the division championship!04-cheers
