If we win the NCAA Basketball tournament? Like what if the Ville repeats, or UConn comes back? Does the money split to the conference a la BCS bowl?

Equal revenue sharing with all current revenues. If Im not mistaken, the realignment fund is the only thing not shared equally.

Most of these payouts are based on the number of teams in your conference save for two:

Academic Enhancement Fund - Purpose: The fund enhances academic-support programs at Division I member institutions. Common uses include tutorial services, equipment, supplies and additional personnel.

How the fund is determined: A base amount is awarded for each Division I member institution

Grant in Aid Fund - Purpose: This fund promotes financial aid for education by awarding more dollars to schools with the most grants-in-aid.

How the fund is determined: The fund pays based on the institution’s number of full-time grants-in-aid equivalencies, beginning with one grant and progressing in units of 50. All grants awarded above 150 are valued at the same amount.

Sports Sponsorship Fund: Purpose: This fund encourages institutions that sponsor and support nonrevenue sports.

How the fund is determined: The fund is based on the number of sports an institution sponsors.

And the Big one:

Basketball Fund - Purpose: The fund rewards long-term performance in the Division I Men’s Basketball Championship.

How the fund is determined: Values are assigned to units that are awarded for each stage of the championship to which a conference’s teams advance. Payments are based on a rolling six-year average rather than a single year to lessen the financial pressure on any individual institution to advance in the tournament.

This is the one everyone talks about. As you can see it actually makes up only about 40 % of the revenue distributed, but this is the money that is paid out based on how well you do in the tournament. Essentially each unit for the 2011 season averaged out to be worth $227,000 per year for six years ($1.37 million). In 2012 that number was $255,000 per year or $1.53 million. In 2013 that number is approximately $285,500 or $1.71 million over 6 years.

Each unit is one game played. Each team can earn up to five units in a season (title game does not count as a unit). Play-in games count, so those teams can earn up to six units. So if you make a Sweet 16, that is three units earned.

For reference a team like Louisville who is leaving, has earned for the Big East/AAC thru the year 2018 (not including this season)

Cool. I forgot the AAC gets a full BCS share this year. Nice one year windfall for the newbies.

That number is actually not included. However it is not as big a windfall as you may think. Under the Big East, it accounted for $1-$3 million for the top half of the league, and slightly under $1 million for the bottom half (the bowl payouts were based on order of finish).

Depends on where you come from. Last year each school only got about 100-200K from the BCS in CUSA. In 2012, our whole media contract was worth about 1.16 million a school. This year, the BCS payment of 1-3 million could dwarf what we got from the BCS AND media last year. I suppose its not a huge number, but its significantly more than we used to get.
