UCONN Fans come in here and tell me about your team
I haven't seen much of you guys this year. Saw some of the uconn v usf game. Who should I look out for on saturday? Looks like you guys can pass the ball pretty well.

From what we saw last week, their passing game is not great...Frosh QB that frankly looks it. Vanilla offense. Lacking playmakers.
They are oh-fer for a reason.

It wasn't that impressive. Lots came against 3rd and 4th stringers playing deep prevent.
Pack the box, bring pressure and dare them to throw. He threw a lot of awful passes because he was getting drilled all day.

They have one very good, big receiver - # 85 - not sure of his name. He is able to get open and catch the ball reliably.
They did get a lot of yards passing but the QB is prone to throwing into coverage and UC intercepted him twice.
UC's secondary is banged up and I think was missing a starter or two, plus in the 2nd half they played a lot of young guys.

I did notice UC held them to 56 yds rushing, so what you guys are saying appears to be true.

RE: UCONN Fans come in here and tell me about your team
QB Boyle is going to be good. 6-4 and throws the ball with zip. The OLine is horrendous thought so it won't matter. Best player on offense is probably WR Shakim Philipps who will be returning from injury. Looks like we are going to give more snaps to Max DeLorenzo over Lyle McCombs at RB. Again with the OL being so bad McCombs has been unable to get going much this year. DeLorenzo is more of a powerful back compared to McCombs who is more of a shifty make you miss type.
Defense has been bad, which is something we are not used to here. Best player on the field is Yawin Smallwood. Averaging some ridiculous Tackle Per Game stat. Secondary is not strong after losing a few palyers to the NFL last year. D Line also is pretty lousy and has been unable to sustain pressure on QBs all year.
Special Teams have also been lousy. Kicking game is poor. They moved McCombs on the depth chart to be the primary returner for Saturday though so maybe he will make a play in the open space if given the oppurtunity.
Common theme is...we aren't very good this year. It starts in the trenches and neither the D or O lines are winning the battles. There is certainly some talent on the field, but other than for 3 quarters of the Michigan game, we have not played good football.

Yeah, you can make them one dimensional. Their offensive line is big and slow...speed rushing wore them out. You want that kid throwing a lot. His QBR had to be close to single digits.
They converted a couple prayer 3rd and looongs where he threw it up for grabs when UC played way off, too. That game was never a contest.

Why travel that far to watch your team get waxed!!
We are now seeing the results of some absolutely dreadful recruiting brought to you by the previous coaching administration and Mr. Hathaway!!
I can assure you, the next head coach will be a young, high energy recruiter and we will be back on track within 2 years!

Lol. I actually know of five guys from my tailgate group making the trip. I can't get down there this time. There seemed to be a solid amount going from the boneyard

UConn has 1 nice big WR, but they lack offensive playmakers. Boyle should be a good QB though. We scored early and had them down pretty big.
By the 3rd Q they had to throw it on virtually every possession. They had a couple of 15 yard runs but UC did play well with the front 7.

They do have playmakers at WR. Those kids are talented. Offensive line is a sieve and RBs are no threat. But at least give the two WRs kudos, they are really good. And other than Marcus Easley, the best WRs UConn has had in many many years.

UConn had 5 kids taken in the NFL draft last year, and another 3 kids made NFL rosters as UDFAs.
One has to wonder how a team with 8 guys making the NFL can be considered untalented. They play badly, have a losing record, are undisciplined, but you can't make the NFL if you are untalented, can you?
It would not surprise me at all if the following kids make the NFL: Smallwood, Boyle, Phillips and Davis. I think a couple DBs have a chance too.
This is a coaching thing, pure and simple.

This plus a lack of depth at OLine.

RE: UCONN Fans come in here and tell me about your team
I just hope we don't end up 0-12; that would be bad karma.
This is our worst season since at least 1977 (maybe longer than that). Right now, many UConn fans would make a deal with the devil if it meant getting back to a bowl next year. I hope Petrino is on our list, although he wouldn't be my first choice. I want an aggressive young coach (Edsall, circa 1999).
Concerning the game itself, the only spot on our team that really worries me is our defensive backs. They weren't in the same zip code as the Cincinnati receivers. I hope UCF doesn't throw the ball 20 yards right down the middle ... we apparently don't have anyone assigned to that area.
