Don't kid yourself into thinking the offense is why we are more competitive this year. With the defense of this year we would have beat Ark St. too last year, along with possibly a couple of others. The only thing that has gotten better this year is our defense. They are exponentially better and keeping us in games. The only reason the score looked somewhat respectable this past Saturday is because of our defense.

Let's do a better job of coordinating our posts, Tiger Stripe.

Nice! Congrats! And Oooops!

I don't know but it wouldn't compare to what would happen on this board if we won the rest of them or lost the rest of them.

As for me, I expected 4-8 before the start of the season, so I'd be pretty satisfied with the split scenario.

I expected 3-9 and expect that is what we'll end up at beating UT-Martin and getting one of the UCONN, USF, or Temple games. I'd be just fine with that now just as I was at the beginning of the season.

So what does this all mean?

Nothing...go back to your tired arguments.

It means we won one of those games this year.

So when we lose it can't be blamed on Lynch, but when we win it's because of him?

Ha

I will say, however, that this team has been competitive in more games than last year primarily because of the excellent play of the defense. Not because of the offense and who the QB is. The only game that the Tigers weren't as competitive in was the game where the defense played their worst (SMU). Even then, the defense made big plays in the 2nd half to make it look competitive.

We have had some big plays downfield this year where the receiver has dropped a ball in the end zone, dropped a ball inside the five, had a TD returned due to a holding penalty, had a kickoff return called back and last week a pick six that was nullified and eventually burned an extra two and a half minutes off the clock which made a comeback impossible.

That's how close we are.

Let's be completely transparent, though. Arkansas State and SMU were significantly better last year and Duke was likely better last year with Renfroe at QB. MTSU was probably a better team last year as well. UCF might arguably be better this year.

We are definitely improving-- especially on defense, but using this transitive property comparison between years is flawed.

SMU has played a pretty good schedule so far this year. They have lost to most of their tough opponents but their record is a little deceiving.

Yeah, and UCF only beat the #8 team in the nation and lost to the #11 team by 3 points, when it was obvious they should've won that game....

And we outplayed them in every aspect of the game, except refs calls and the final score. Nothing to get excited about over that one at all.
