Since everyone is always puffing their chests out about their respective teams I'm flipping it around and asking about your team's greatest flaws. I'm actually more interested about what weaknesses a team may have because that's what you don't hear about & that's what must be exposed in order to win. If there was one thing I would change about ECU this year it would come down to 3 choices:

(1) Better short yardage rushing: Our offense simply isn't built for it. It would be great to bring in the next Vonta Leach & a big strong bruising back for the goal line. I also would like to see at least a little more balance overall because at times it certainly pays to have a physical grind it out running game.

(2) Better deep passing attack: Carden is like a surgeon so maybe I'm nitpicking a bit but even before all the injuries/suspensions we just haven't connected on many of the few deep balls attempted. Hardy is a phenom but he is more of a possession (short to mid yardage) receiver. Grayson looked like he might become the solution but with him being out for the season now hopefully Lance Ray can step up in a big way because that dude is a freak athlete that has all the physical tools to make it at the next level.

(3) Better pass defense: Our run D is top level but our pass D (while improved) could play tighter coverage, jump more routes, etc.

Ultimately, I have to go with # 3 because even though we are starting to do some things I like, I'm still worried that a good QB could pick us apart. That being said, I'm very encouraged with the overall progress of the D & the team as a whole.

The fact that there are still games remaining in the schedule.

ECU's glaring weakness is the lack of a ground game in short yardage situations. We simply do not have a back that can pound it for the tough 2 or 3 yards. It cost us both losses....the Tulane game with the pick 6 on the goal line and the VT game not being able to convert 3rd and short numerous times and stalling drives.

I expect this problem to again rear its head in close games before the season ends.

For UTSA it would be our toss between our secondary and our special teams. Our kicker was one of our strengths last year, but he is struggling this year. Our punter was one of our weaknesses last year and he is again this year. It seems every game he shanks one for 15-20 yards. And we can't seem to get a kickoff return past the 25 yard line.

Tulane: offensive line.

Football in general.

For ECU it isn't so much the lack of a power running game but rather the reluctance to line up and just do it. Coop cane get yards inside when needed. Carden is a big, strong runner as well when needed. The real weakness is Riley just wants to be too cute sometimes.

This is what I'm worried about with ECU. I know it's still fairly early to look ahead to Marshall but sue me.

We should beat our next 3 opponents (and probably State but they don't apply to our goal of winning C-USA). If we lose one of those games than que sera sera, but if we make it to the Marshall game unbeaten (from this point) than I am worried about the fact that their pass defense seems to be ahead of ours.

I don't think either team will have much success running the ball as both rush defenses are very stout but we need to keep improving against the pass before that game.
