Best of the Go5
The BYU versus Houston game was a fun one. The only thing missing was an impact on conference standings. With the AAC's AQ status gone after this year, it's too bad a "best of" conference never materialized.

Yes, this would be a great idea. It actually would be a conference respected by the "Big Boys" too. Add ND and I think no one would question it.

This isn't a "Best of the Go5", its a "Best of the AAC and MWC". There's a difference.

RE: Best of the Go5
Both sides have too many teams and too much dead weight. Due to rules, there is too much disincentive to starting a new conference. If the Big 12 blows apart, the remainders could start inviting teams to form this best of the rest. Would be interesting to see if they could keep the P5 status or would it be treated as G5.

Really, as long as you can find 6 members of a current NCAA autobid qualified conference to build around--creating a new conference is not as hard to do as you might think. If 6 members of an existing autobid conference that have played together for the last 6 years (I think that's the correct time frame) start a new conference together, the new conference is automatically eligible for NCAA autobid status. In other words, assuming everything stays the same, in 6 years, as long as either 6 MAC teams, 6 AAC teams, or 6 MW teams are used as the core of a newly created "best of the rest" G5 conference, then the new conference would begin life as a NCAA autobid conference with no waiting period (just like the Big East basketball conference is doing this year).
