I moved into the Eastern Highlands because it was cheap ($600/month for a two bedroom). We move in and one neighbor is a crackhead (crackhead Ron) and the other neighbors are meth heads and e-tards. We were the only students living in our building and there was only one other apartment with students in it in the entire complex. One guy was stabbed and killed in the next building over (I'm not exaggerating).
All of LeForge is like that. Shady. The southside of campus, while a bit more expensive, is much, much better where you actually get a "college experience." I don't mean to rant but I am sick and tired of kids moving over there and getting robbed or paying the ultimate price.

Apparently the police aren't releasing all they know, especially the motive.
But then again that probably makes sense if they haven't arrested the suspect.
I find DirtyBird's comments about the area very interesting.
I have been out of Ypsilanti a very, very long time and never was familiar with that area where the murder occurred but it sounds like the type of area where crime and victimization is a real concern.
But I still don't expect this in Ypsilanti, near the campus. I thought the bad areas were far from campus. Guess I'm naive.
Almost 20 years ago the Catholic Priest who married me was robbed and murdered in Detroit.
Before that I was robbed at knife point by the old Olympia Stadium in Detroit by three robbers. Fortunately, someone up there must have been looking out for me. They got some money and my watch, but I was unharmed.
It is easy to say that unfortunately crime is a real problem in Detroit but Washtenaw County is a pretty safe place to live. Until today.
I just hope it wasn't robbery and a senseless murder... It is one thing to rob a person, but to murder someone too?
I lost some material possessions, but Reed lost his life...
