RE: US Bank Arena info
If Barrett thinks it is such a great idea why doesn't he and W-S buy it and redo it? Because it is a yucking money pit with no return. I have considered returning as a BB season ticket holder, but would never if downtown. The games belong on campus where students can easily be involved.

If downtown is such a great idea why not ask Eggsaver to move?

Here's an idea...
Don't try to USE the University of Cincinnati and treat us like a tool, and "means-to-an-end."

Why not show UC that we are actually a welcomed and valued resource?

They want UC to move their basketball downtown, to become a "second tenant," at USBank to provide the rationale to renovate the arena...and for UC to really foot the major part of the deal. But how about this? Why not renovate the arena...or at least commit to doing it...TO ATTRACT UC? I have the sneaky suspicion that once UC gets the project done, the City and County will turn around and accuse UC of "hogging," "wasting," and "obstructing," their shiny new arena and then the push will be to get UC games back on campus. In other words, once the tool has served it's purpose, you put it back in the cabinet.

Props to President Ono for looking out for UC's best interests. The City and Hamilton County aren't looking out for UC...as usual. UC ought to go ahead with the renovation of 5/3, and if the City and County are really serious about getting UC playing downtown, then THEY will ante up. But until then...

This city has one of the best examples of how to operate just to the west in Indianapolis, but has learned nothing from it.

Where is Cincinnati's retractable roof or domed stadium? Without one the city has had no chance at high profile football or basketball events. Where is our nice indoor arena?

And UC should not pay one dime toward updating US Bank Arena.

When the Banks / PBS was being initially planned in the late 90's Indy had already hosted a final four, and they had another one scheduled for 2000? Why PBS was not built as a retractable roof facility is a mystery to me. Also 5, not 1, counties in central Indiana payed to build Lucas Oil Stadium. In essence the Region has a stake in the deal.

Because they have a modern arena on campus and a convention banquet facility attached to it.

Mike Brown did not want a retractable dome.

And so should UC, rather than a downtown shared use and configured facility (BB, hockey).

Plus we get more casual fans downtown and the dinner pre/post options make it a fun night out.

this is a no brainer and I believe Mick wants it too

Tired of this "casual fan" fantasy. Couldn't even come anywhere close to selling out the UC-XU game downtown this year on a saturday night when it's supposedly one of the sports highlights of the year in this city. If the "casual fan" doesn't show up for this game, who thinks they're gonna show up for the big game against the Campbell Camels on a weeknight? Don't alienate your core fans and students who seem to overwhelming want to stay on campus to appeal to fans who don't exist.

The problem with that was it was not included in the season ticket packages that they were selling. And then the ticket price was inflated. I wouldn't buy them either, If I have just spent hundreds on a season ticket package that didn't include the signature game.

We're talking casual fans here, and season ticket holders shouldn't be put in that classification.
Everyone I know who has season tickets and pretty much everyone with season tickets in my section bought seats and were at the the UC-XU game this past year. Looking back on it, this was a nice litmus test to see if these so-called casual fans would come out in droves for a UC game downtown on a weekend night for one of the program's marquee games. Reported attendance was around 10k. Dismal failure. As someone pointed out on another board, pretty much every team who's tried to be an anchor tenant down there has failed at the turnstiles for whatever reason. I didn't check the numbers, but that poster claimed the Cyclones apparently had better attendance when they played at The Gardens then they do now at USB in case someone wanted to try and point them out as a success.

The Cyclones have increased attendance every season since their return in 2006 until this year, and the unusually bad winter played a huge role in the small drop this year. The Cyclones team that played in the Garden was also a higher level of hockey than the league for the current Cyclones.

However, you are correct that the IHL Cyclones of the 90s did have much better attendance in the Gardens. The Mighty Ducks who played in the Gardens in the decade before the Cyclones returned to US Bank averaged attendance figures comparable to what the Cyclones are drawing now.

I would call the Cyclones a success since their return in 2006 though. They are profitable and are coming up on nearly a decade in business and in the same league, which in minor league hockey is an eternity.
