Not arguing that Wichita State shouldn't be ranked but Creighton beat Wichita State 2 of 3 last year. Also, we lost 1 starter and they lost 2 starters from last years team and a key reserve so I'm not sure why you are so sure Wichita is better than Creighton but it doesn't surprise me you are down on another Big East team.

SLU was better than VCU last year.
however, that was the 1st year that SLU had been better than VCU in a long time. Which is probably why VCU is ranked where they are and SLU is where they are this year at the start.

I'm not so sure, but I can see why the coaches would vote Wichita ahead of Creighton.
1- tourney- Wichita DID make the final 4. Creighton didn't.
2- tougher conference- folks aren't as sure of Creighton being able to handle the new conference. Wichita on the other hand has an easier conference.

SLU was better than VCU last year. Agreed on that.
VCU has been better for longer though.
That should have nothing to do with a preseason ranking right now though. SLU should be ranked. Maybe not ahead of VCU (they lost more production than we did and don't bring in quite as much as we do on paper), but they should be ranked.

So we're going to rank teams based on how long they've been good? Stever, just come out and say that you think SLU sucks and get it over with.
This poll is not irrelevant, or they wouldn't do it. SLU got screwed, and there are a lot of Billiken fans raising hell about it.
Good news is it's something Billiken fans can agree on.

SLU has 1 massive week OOC to make a statement. @ Wisconsin, and then hosting Wichita St.
1 thing that not sure if you've talked about yet with SLU is their travel in conference. Outside of a Wed/Sat stretch in Philly- @ St Joe's on Wed, @ La Salle on Sat, the other 6 are 1 game deals.
Tue 1/7 @ Rhode Island
Sat 1-11 @ Dayton
Wed 1-22 @ Duquesne
Wed 2/19 @ George Mason
Sat 3/1 @ VCU
Sat 3/8 @ UMass

Yet another reason the anti A-10 people are firing away is that they don't think the travel is worth it. The Billikens can lose no more than 1 non-conference game without winning the A-10.

problem is there's no one to add that could help SLU out. Maybe a Wichita- would allow them to do travel partners for those 2 schools. That's where losing Butler and Xavier really hurts. Now you have Dayton and then next closest road game is Duquesne.

I know all the arguments there. One of my friends is the #1 Anti A-10 troll on another site.
He's convinced SLU would better off not being in a conference than being in the A-10.

SLU will be fine. They're still really good this year. They'll make their way into the rankings this year and I think the Billikens will be favored at home against Wichita State.

I don't think i'd go that far. A10 outside of logistics is still a very good league for SLU. VCU, SLU, La Salle all tourney teams from last year, and Dayton, Umass, and RI could make this year. Playing indy would kill them.

I don't think the top 25 should be released until after the new year.
You're a smart guy, but this is ridiculous.
It's about respect on a national level. The fact that SLU was barely mentioned tells me that the coaches in this country think the Billikens will not be very good. That bothers me as a Billiken fan. This is an embarrassment to the program after finishing the year 16th in both polls to be irrelevant in the first one of the new year.
Like I told Stever, I have been vehemently pushing Saint Louis as a member of the Big East, but now I don't have as much of a case for the Bills as I had before this came out.
Oh come on, it's how coaches and writers THINK the season will play out and they are almost always WRONG! The Big East with only one team ranked is a joke.
Pac-12 3 teams ranked...really?
ACC with 5? Get real. UVA? Notre Dame?
AAC with 2?
Yet we in the Big East only have 1? Wichita gets love but not Creighton who basically has the same team that whooped the Shockers last year?
AAC with 3 is completely reasonable. Louisville, Memphis, and UConn are a darn good top 3.
Big East is in a very interesting position. A lot of the top schools were hit real hard by graduation/leaving early for the NBA. The Big East's strength this year isn't at the top it's the depth. Depth doesn't always translate to the top 25. Big East has a ton of teams that are in that 26-50 range.
Wichita gets more love than Creighton because of what they did in the tourney. You might not like it, but the tourney matters. You ask folks who had the better season, Creighton or Wichita and watch 90% say that Wichita did. That's just where basketball is today. Also, Creighton has the questions about how they can handle the step up in play. It's a valid question.
Oh please, this isn't some fan or writers poll. This is the coaches poll, and the fact that the coaches don't realize that Creighton who won the MWC and is returning the same team who whooped the Shockers just goes to show that coaches shouldn't have a poll. But like I said, i'm not concerned since these polls are ALWAYS wrong. So for them to say we only have one ranked team means we will in fact have 3-4 ranked by the end of the year.
I agree with Redman.
This is a coaches poll, which includes their opinions, biases, agendas and so on. Look no further than Georgetown and Creighton unranked, but Virginia at #25...? Please.

where has Georgetown been on a lot of these preseason things? They are a fringe top 25 team right now. Creighton same thing- with the questions about how they fare in the new conference. Virginia should be solid this year- if they hadn't crapped early last year, they are a tourney team last year.
In the college sports madness top 144- they have Creighton 30 and Georgetown 36. So really close to the actual poll. UVA was 26.
In fact, the team that may have a bigger gripe than any mentioned- Villanova. They in the top 144 were 27th- but are way down there.

In a long time? How could you even make that statement since SLU has been in vastly better conferences than VCU until last year, and even VCU's success is not really that old. Ten years ago most didn't even know who VCU was. (No offense Rams fans)

Our conference just got easier and UVA's just got significantly harder but now UVA is somehow a top 25 team? Be consistent with your arguments please. UVA will finish below at least 6 teams in the ACC. Cuse, Duke, UNC, ND, Pitt and NC St.

VCU has won tournament games in 4 of the last 7 years- and made the tourney in another of those years(as a 11 seed, so would have been on the bubble if they didn't win the conference). SLU only has made the tourney the last 2 years. So yes, VCU has done better. You have to remember in the last 7 years, SLU has had years of 11-19(175 RPI), 17-14(123 RPI), 15-15(137 RPI). 2 of the other years, they were only 19-11(87 RPI) and 19-13(74 RPI). VCU's WORST season the last 7 years is 66. VCU last 10 years has never been below 89. That takes into account EVERYTHING. So yes, VCU besides last year has been much better than SLU.

UVA is picked to finish 4th/5th. Pretty much only ones for sure are Cuse/Duke/UNC ahead of them.
Creighton is entering a harder conference.
Problem with Georgetown is they lose a lot from last year. I don't think we'd even be thought of as a tourney team in the old Big East quite frankly....
