It wasn't too long ago that your stadium only sat 15,000.

Give us time.

Yeah its a nice old school looking stadium but doesn't look big. I'm sure it'll look different once done and full.

Short answer, yes. This is phase 1 or 2 of a 5 phase plan they've drawn up for our athletic expansion.

Our stadium is still only going to "seat" 24,000 people, but that doesn't include the grass seating. Capacity will be about 30,000, but until we come close to filling that up on a weekly basis there is no need for us to have a 30,000+ seating capacity stadium.

Bobcat Stadium is beautiful but you've averaged 19,000 people this season for a 30,000 seat stadium. I'd rather average 19,000 people in a 24,000 seat stadium because it looks much fuller and I think creates a better atmosphere because people aren't so spread out.

To each his own though.

We're officially implementing Phase 1A and half of Phase 1B for seating expansion at this time. Phase 2 is eliminated due to the construction of the FOC in the east endzone. However, the potential for 50,000 seat capacity is still there even without those seats. (These phases come from the feasability study conducted in 2009)

The FOC is from Phase 1 of the Soaring to Victory campaign. The student seating expansion is independent of that campaign.

Three things:

1. You beat me to it. First thing I thought of was Zoolander.
2. HATE the computer generated model, it looks like it was designed from the 80's (mind you, I'm talking the photos, not the stadium).
3. LIKE the stadium itself. Looks like it can be added on when/if it is needed, and will be updated to be a nice stadium. Long overdue for the Georgia Southern fans.

Did some thinking about this and it's quite possible based on this most recent rendering. Looks like more area is closed in because in the original rendering there was a big open "deck" area on the field side. Putting office/team areas there probably bought us a good amount more of room.

I realize that (and I'm not trying to be a dick), I'm just wondering if there are plans in the near future for another wave of expansion. Do you know who your first FBS OOC team will be at the expanded stadium? I just think a nearby, established FBS/BCS team would be (even more) hard to come by since there isn't substantial room for visiting fans

Yeah its a nice old school looking stadium but doesn't look big. I'm sure it'll look different once done and full.

I'll take small and FULL over big and EMPTY every Saturday. Once the current round of renovations are done, we will have 22k seats, plus a little overflow on the hills. That is plenty large enough for the SBC. We could average 25k in attendance before needing any other upgrades. I'm not sure why schools would shy away from a 1x1 when they only get a few thousand tickets anyway. What does it matter how many seats we have? Would Navy, GT, Air Force, or any of the other schools that visit SBC teams really bring that many fans?

Also, Paulson has a deception to it. It's larger than it looks. I think it's the gently sloping seats, and the fact that it's dug into the ground make it look smaller.

Yeah our last crowd sucked but that what happens whent theres a forecast of rain all weekend and it ends up raining 8-10 inches in the Austin area Saturday night.

The only reason I want a 30k stadium full or not is because thats the number everyone keeps bringing up that helps attract P5 schools to come. I don't know if its true of not because some have success with that with smaller stadiums. I forget y'all sit in the grass in the end zone. That will help make it seem bigger. I really love the design, I was only questioning the size but y'all helped clear up how it sits more then it looks.

This does not include the little football field, but this is a rough photoshop (that I created in the early summer) of what I thought the stadium would feel like once the additions were made. It also doesn't include the seats we've already added in front of the Bishop Building (the smaller building on the right)

This is such a non issue. Yes the mini field looks odd, but it was put there to appease the local/family crowd that were used to the kids playing there before the new building. We will continue to expand based on demand (I think it can be expanded to ~50K). This is the first expansion since the stadium was built in the early 80's. We don't know who the 1st OOC will be, but it'll proabably be a MAC or academy school. I am hoping another ~3K seats will be added soon after on the home side (within 2-3). I also think if demand remains high we will redo the home press/luxury boxes not too long after. If there is money to be made, then it'll get done. We are just doing what is needed and will make further improvements when the time is right (or when the money is there).

We all have elements designed for fans. ASU opens up its practice Fields for fans to use every Saturday.

The upper deck he has is definitely too big and we won't have the corners expanded on the home side but that gives you a good idea. It will definitely look bigger.

+1. We will overfill our stadium next year, and it will be loud. Probably one of the loudest in the conference. Botcat Stadium is one hell of a stadium but you guys jumped the gun a little early. When you goes avg close to your capacity then come talk to us.
Paulson is much larger then what it appears to be. If a team wants to buy 2k+ tickets they can, GSU fans will just fill in the hills. Come 2015 make a trip with your team then judge Paulson.

this is what I'm saying. We had Tx Tech (Big 12, in-state) open our stadium and size wasn't an issue... but I can't imagine Tech opening our stadium with less than 25k seats

Ehh, I don't know about loudest... check out this quote from Todd Barry re last week's game against ULM (only 15k attendance):

"We were not prepared for how loud it was there," ULM head coach Todd Berry said. "We actually had to use a silent count, which we never had to do in league play, and that created some problems for us." 04-rock

We hit 110dB this year with barely 16,000. We may not be the loudest but we will be close to it. Ive been to some big SEC games growing up and it still surprises me how loud Paulson can get.

RE: Latest Paulson Stadium Renderings
I was fortunate enough to visit Paulson for ODU's playoff game in '11. What a great time I had. I was truly impressed with your crowd participation, and I loved the bald eagle flight before the game.

We are currently in the midst of planning for a new stadium and we have challenges that are different than yours. Since we are in the city and our campus footprint cannot be expanded we are hoping that our admin can, and will plan for future expansion. It looks like ODU will build a 28K-30K seat stadium to begin with. Some fans say we should plan on expanding to 55K or 60K, but I'm not so sure we will ever need that much. I hope we can go to 45K eventually.

Our first year of transition has been an eye-opener what with five FBS teams scheduled. Many are impatient, but I know it's a process, and I am satisfied with how it is going so far.

Much respect for the Eagles and their fans. Good luck with your transition.

I have a great deal of respect for ODU's program, players and fans. I'm not fond of their head coach but i'll let that slide. ODU's fans were the loudest and most organized that came to Paulson stadium in the last few years.
