Great addition! Our OL class is OUTSTANDING. The skills that lineup behind the pigs we've been landing are lucky.

RE: Shane Evans Commits to NIU
Not that this is any guarantee of anything going forward, but according to this Evans is graduating early and enrolling at NIU in January. More likely he stays based on this information.

RE: Shane Evans Commits to NIU
BarsemaBone, you are correct sir....

Per EdgyTim:

http://edgytim.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1562737

Quote:Crystal Lake (Ill.) Prairie Ridge senior three star ranked offensive guard prospect Shane Evans (6-foot-4, 296 pounds) just gave Northern Illinois University his verbal commitment. Evans talks about his decision here.

Shane Evans loveds the family atmosphere around the Huskies program.
"We just left NIU and I gave them my verbal commitment," Evans said. "I'm on my way home now and I'm just very excited about my decision."

Evans talked about why he gave the nearby NIU Huskies his verbal commitment.

"It was just an important thing to me to go to a good program. NIU is a good program and they also have a great atmosphere which I was impressed with everything they have to offer. I also loved the family atmosphere at NIU and that was another big factor for me."

So who else was Evans considering?

"I was also considering Toledo pretty hard."

Evans will be playing for an NIU Huskies program that is just minutes away from his home. Was distance ever a factor in his final choice?

"Distance was never really a factor for me. The fact that I'm close to home means a lot to me. I'm also going to enroll in January and be able to take part in spring ball."

Evans is the fourth known in-state verbal commitment for the NIU Huskies Class of 2014. Evans joins Proviso West tight end Denzel Tolliver, Bishop McNamara LB Robbie Odeneal Jr. and and Wheaton South quarterback Ryan Graham.

Shane Evans is verbally committed to Northern Illinois University

Cue Toledo fan mentioning that they have a 9 star transfer from Jupiter who turned down Alabama to play O-line for the midnight blue and gold in 3,2,1....

Good to hear commits talk about the quality of the football program and the family atmosphere at NIU. Seem to be two big draws for recruits, coupled with the academic success of athletics and the new facilities.

GO HUSKIES

"He was a Northwest Herald All-Area selection last season and is a two-way starter for the 3-4 Wolves this season."

Does he play DT? If so, he may be a starter for us sooner than any of us think especially since he is elgible for spring ball.

That would be wonderful if he could come in and play DT for us. Presently and in recruiting, that seems to be our biggest need.

I'm wondering if that's exactly what the staff is thinking. If so this could be even more of a major get than any of us have thought. With his size 6'4" 295, he could be huge for us out of the box next year.

Really impressed he drove out to DeKalb yesterday with his parents to tell coach in person. Class move.

Agreed. Need some depth and size at DT. Whatever they decide, seems like a good get and another quality kid for the Huskies.
