This looks awesome. Would love to live there when it's done.

Another one that is going to be great looking is the old Powell School on 6th Ave N. 20 units going in there. Beautiful, historical building.

Though not specifically for UAB students, this will provide more housing options near to the campus and only help to build up the retail development around Southside.

True. I know it's just fast food but Taco Bell, Wendy's, and Starbucks are on the way with new stores in Southside.

Has anyone been to the new sports bar place in 5 points, Red Zone?

I have a feeling that it will be filled with a lot of grad students/doctors more than traditional students, but it will definitely be a good thing for 5 points/Southside in terms of drawing more and better restaurants and retail

It will be interesting to see if the structure will remain designated to apartments or if it will be changed to condos (like the lofts downtown) instead as it develops. More and more, apts are being changed to condo so that maintenance costs are shifted to the "buyer" rather than with a "tenant" who makes demands upon the owner / manager.

Either way, it is an exciting and promising addition to the Highland Ave. area venue. It seems to be an interesting compromise location to being "in town" but not "downtown".
