NFL Prospects
Ran some quick queries at the CBS Sports site and found these JMU players listed as prospects:

Robertson - no. 25 ILB in 2014
Marlowe - no. 18 WS in 2015
Wells - no. 44 OT in 2014

No mention of Daniel Brown that I could find at this point. Didn't see Jordan Stanton either.

RE: NFL Prospects
I think the only person that has a shot at getting drafted is Robertson, and that's if he wins the Buchanan award.

Any of those guys have a chance to make a team given a real chance.

I think in 2 years Birdsong will be on this list. He's still a little raw now but the potential is there.

RE: NFL Prospects
Robertson is everywhere. He has to show really well on tape. He has played every game the way Moats played at Delaware in 2009. Where 20k fans know he is unstoppable and there is nothing you can do about it.

RE: NFL Prospects
Robertson may have a shot in the late rounds or as a FA. I would hope he would at least make a practice squad.
Marlowe could have a good shot as a late round pick next year if he keeps improving and stays healthy. He has great size for a WS.
I would be shocked if Wells made it somewhere.

Brown hasn't been around enough to be on peoples' radars, especially considering this is the first year we've had a passing QB and pass-heavy playcalling. Let him finish out this year on this trajectory and he'll start getting looks. Next year he could turn some heads. Give O'Cain, Birdsong, and Brown a full year and off-season together (hopefully injury free) and I think Brown won't be some JMU secret...

I would like to see that, and I wouldn't say it would take a miracle, but he has a long way to go. Luckily for him, he's already there physically. He's big, has decent speed, and has a CANNON for an arm (I love watching replays where even in slow-motion it takes about a second for a ball to hit the receiver 20 yards downfield). But...he has a long way to go in putting touch on the ball and not staring down his receivers. I'm hoping O'Cain can help him along with those things in the off-season.

RE: NFL Prospects
Birdsong has to work on not starring down receivers and making his progressions properly, other than that he has all the tools. It's also encouraging how quickly he was able to return from the appendectomy and the shoulder injury against Akron.

RE: NFL Prospects
Here is some perspective on these guys vs past guys form NFL Draft Scout

Josh Wells #38 OT vs. Earl Watford #7 OG (4th Round)
Stephon Robertson #22 ILB vs. Arthur Moats #17 OLB (6th Round) & DJ Bryant #32 OLB (FA)
Dean Marlowe #24 SS vs. Mike Allen #75 CB (FA)

I AM NOT TRYING TO COMPARE ANY OF THESE GUYS, just adding some perspective on how their past ratings turned into draft rounds/success.

I can see Stephon being taken very late in the draft. He's too good of a tackler for some team out there with multiple seventh rounders not to take him.

RE: NFL Prospects
In rough terms, you probably have to be rated in the top ten at your position in order to be drafted (22 times 10 gives you 220 players and there are seven rounds of 32 plus some extra picks thrown in there).

Announcers on Saturday did say that Matthews thinks that Marlowe will be drafted.

I would take Dean's ranking with a grain of salt. Usually FCS prospects aren't scouted heavily until they head into their senior year. I would expect that ranking to rise as more teams watch him play

Matthews at one of his recent pressers talked about Robertson's NFL future. He does not think that he'll be drafted and even seemed doubtful that he would get a training camp invite, as I recall. He did make comparisons of him to Akeem Jordan, saying he did what he could to generate NFL interest in him, but had to do it the hard way without getting drafted. Jordan's speed and size were issues, of course.

I don't think that Robertsone will get drafted either for the same reasons. He's listed at 5-11, 228, or so. I would guess he's probably closer to 5-9, although I've never met him. He just looks undersized to me on the field. He's also not a burner. If he were, he could possibly be converted to safety.

I think his performance, especially with regard to his 40 time, will be very important whenever JMU has its pro day. If he keeps playing well, that notwithstanding, I'm hopeful that some team takes a chance on him as undrafted free agent. Only takes interest from one team, of course.

Stephon reminds me some of Pat Tillman, but Tillman only went 205/210. He was a LB at ASU, taken in the 7th round. Of course He didn't play LB in the NFL. I also thought of Bill Bates. He was undersized as a LB and played a lot of special teams. He went 220 or so I think. I believe Bates was undrafted.
