Most organizations have a quota of some kind.
Sales organizations have a sales quota. If a sales manager consistently misses these quotas, the sales manager is usually replaced, unless he owns the team or is married to the owner's daughter. (See Dallas Cowboys). The athletic quota equivalent would have to be wins vs. losses. Either we don't have a quota, or the bar isn't set very high. How many 20 win seasons have we had in the last 10 year? How many postseason tournaments have we participated in? How many conference championships have we won? How many conference finals have we participated in? How many times have we won our first conference tournament game? We know the answers to all these questions, and if I'm an AD, I'm looking at those figures and thinking, what the devil are we doing wrong. And I would at some point have to either insist on higher achievements toward quotas, or make necessary changes in order to reach reasonable quotas. Isn't that what an AD is supposed to do? And if the AD isn't willing to do it, then shouldn't the Chancellor take the bull by the horn and demand those quotas be met?04-cheers

If you're a rancher and your horses are getting out of the corral or the barn, would you wait eleven years before you closed the gate or the door? It's too late, the horses(fans)have left the building.

All right, trivia buffs. Who sang the Rawhide theme (besides everyone in America back in those days)?

We have won 5 1st round games in 10 years. 4 of those 10 years we played in our back yard in hot springs.

Frankie Lane was the singer of the Rawhide theme, and whose signature hit was probably Mule Train. Not the Frank Lane who as G.M. of the St.Louis Cardinals in the mid 50's, know as "Trader Frank", and who attempted to trade Cardinal star Stan Musial, but the deal was stopped by Cardinal owner Gussie Busch. As Cardinal G.M. he did trade Cardinal stars Enos Slaughter and Red Schoendienst which antagonized many Cardinal fans. He thought no player was above being traded, and supposedly once said that he'd trade his grandmother if he could get a player in return that he thought could help his club.

As G.M. of several other clubs he did trade some pretty good players like Norm Cash, Rocky Colavito, Roger Maris, and Early Wynn. As the Cleveland Indians G.M., he is probably best known for trading his manager Joe Gordon to the Detroit Tigers for manager Jimmy Dykes. That tidbit of info might have been a good trivia question for Pappy or Scotto.

Frankie Lane was my dad's favorite singer. He used to play Moonlight Gambler all the time.

Whoa ref, was my foot on the line? Frankie Lane should have been a three pointer.

I was able to answer that because I watched Rawhide practually every night this past year on the Western Channel for months and months. I hadn't seen the show since it was on the air, which was 59-65, and I was in college for part of that time, and didn't see a lot of it for four years, and had forgotten much about the show, other than it made a star out of Clint Eastwood. Don't even know if I knew back then who was singing the theme. I was into Elvis and not Frankie Lane then. Now I'm catching up on Matt Dillon and Gunsmoke most every night.

One of the greatest. I have one of his albums on my Itunes that I listen to when I'm working out at the gym. And Moonlight Gambler is one of the songs on the album. Your father obviously had good taste in music.
