I have never had to wait as long as I did before. It was seriously 17min before the traffic cops stopped the cars on Lincoln to let the cars on Stadium Dr turn left. Most of these people are donors from the West lot and C&B lot...not smart to keep those people sitting still that long.

That was the longest it ever took to get out of a game. Also there was no DUI checkpoint at Glidden and 88.

It took us over a half hour to go the few feet to Lincoln Hwy. Then, more time to get on Lincoln Hwy. and then to get past Annie Glidden. It was brutal. We skipped dinner because it was just too late.

why not just stay in the lot for an hour or so and let the traffic subside. You think its easy to get out of Ann Arbor or South bend.

We DID stay after the game. Bottom line: if the police did their job correctly, traffic would have flowed nicely. Period. Ann Arbor and South Bend are dumb analogies. They have a few more fans attending their games.

and they have more expressway exits. Enjoy the day, life is too short to worry about crap. Most of you look for any thing wrong.

we talk about sellouts and big crowds and noe there is griping about how long it took to get out. The best part of tailgating I think is post tailgating. Fire up the grill, pop the cooler and sit back and relish the moment. What is the big hurry. This was a perfect football weekend.

You like to tailgate and drink. Good for you. Not everyone does, however. Some people need/want to get home. All the post-game tailgaters do is block the way for the rest of us who want to leave. We usually have to kick people out who sit behind OUR car. Apparently, 4+ hours before the game is not enough to eat and get drunk, I guess. 01-wingedeagle

nobady got drunk in our party. so now we had too many fans

Good God people, complaints because there are sell-out crowds that slow things down! For months there has been this group of people on this board that complained about how we would not come close to selling out games and how bad our fan base is. In this economy you need to win for the entire base to show up. 2 MAC championships and a BCS bowl, wins at Iowa and Purdue and what happened? Like 2003 and 2004 the NIU football /tailgating experience rocked. The game ended at 7:15 on a Saturday night, savor the moment and relax. After the Maryland game (which ended at 9:30 on a Thursday night) many of us went back to our cars and opened up the tailgates and celebrated the win, allowing the traffic to clear.
Imagine Cub fans expecting a great "parking" experience. I live in the far northwest suburbs and it takes us 3 hours to get a Friday night game at the Cell. It's rush hour in Chicago on a Friday afternoon.

If you can still afford tickets, the cost of gas and a nice tailgate, enjoy it. We need to play better that we did Saturday, we all know we are capable, we have a very good shot of running the table and more national exposure.
PLEASE! Enjoy this.

you are right on point. If all these little things bother someone, then don't go. Also, i kinda of resent the drunk comment by dogfan.

RE: Tailgating at Homecoming
I think a little too much drama combined with self-centered bs here.

A long line, time to get out is nearly a problem everywhere when there is a crowd. It's something to be dealt with ans so be it. It SHOULD be expected at a sellout.

As for tailgating after the game, if you want to do it, fine. But I do agree some indviduals do take this to an extent and believe THEY are entitled to their spot, the spot behind someone else's car as well as the aisle is their's not only before but AFTER games. It's not yours' and people do want to leave. To say "stay for an hour" OR "that's what happens" elsehwere is a completely a$$nine, self centered argument. No, you shouldn't "expect" the aisle to be blocked. Just say "I am the best and f the rest of you" cause that's what you are saying. It's fine to have a good time but you don't have to do it while preventing others from doing what they need to do. If you feel you can't have a fun time without the "full blown do as I please post tailgate" you have a problem, not the guy trying to leave a lot, especially at night.

next game, would someone in Dog Fan's area please sit on his lap and make him happy. Then he won't be complaining about the 20 minutes longer it took him to exit the game.

RE: Tailgating at Homecoming
My point for bring up the getting out issue was because it was not a problem for the EIU game when about as many people were in attendance. It just seems like the traffic cops were not doing what they did last time and it made the traffic seem worse. They seriously just sat on the side of the road for 15 min like they were on a break.

That's my point, too - the traffic cops were not doing their job. But, rather than point that out and hope that Athletics will address this in our next games, we should just revel in the fact that we had a full house. For our next sellout, if I am waiting in traffic again for almost an hour, I will just get out of my car, crack open a few beers, party hard, and celebrate the sellout! 04-cheers Gee, I guess beer IS the answer for everything!!

EXACTLY! The exit at the EIU game was smooth, for homecoming there were kids waving cars around afterwards, it was a disaster.
Whatever needed fixing after the EIU game seemed to be taken care of, so why not mention it on the board?
If you want to stay and drink, then stay and drink, but let the sober fans get home before the drinkers on the road.

We didn;t stay to drink, we just enjoyed sitting, have a hot dog and an occasional beer.

RE: Tailgating at Homecoming
Drinking should not be allowed at tailgating. This would eliminate the problem of drunks and excess lines for the bathrooms.

Having been at both EIU & HC, I'll say this:

While the "attendance" for both games were the same.

There were at probably 1-2K more folks in the "area of HS" at HC.

don't forget, there were a lot of people staying for the night as all hoptel rooms were filled. So traffic wouild be heavier as people go to local resaturants.

This issue had nothing to do with people eating locally after the game. The 2 traffic cops at Lincoln and Stadium Dr were sitting on the ground for 15min. If they would have been directing traffic it would have been fine.

I must be the only one who had no problem getting out of the west side lot. Took maybe 5 minutes max and even passed through Annie Glidden and Lincoln Hwy with no problem. I will say that I don't understand why no traffic officers are at that light before and after the game.

There was definitely a surge just before I pulled out.

Before the games they do have 1 cop that has control of the traffic lights.

I saw 3 cops at the intersection after the game.

After I had been in the traffic line on Stadium Dr. for over 30 minutes (at that point), I saw a cop ride by on his bicycle to Stadium Dr. and Lincoln Hwy. to direct traffic (I assume).

Yes, I saw that pre-pullout surge. I handled that behind the scenes by trying to confirm with your wife. Let's just say that your wife cannot stop laughing and will be "discussing" this with you when you get home tonight.
