Looking at NMSU
A few quick stats. Our Sagarin SOS is comparable to theirs

allowing 7.7 yards per play and oppenents convert 55% of 3rd down

turnover differential is -4

being outgained by 220 ypg and outscored by 33

For Owls, the comparable numbers are

allowing 5.6 yards per play and 31% on 3rd down

turnover differential is +3

we are being outgained by 27 yards and outscored by 1

the stat that looks favorable for them is passing efficiency. they are averaging 6.9 per att. vs 6.1 for Rice and have thrown fewer picks in more attempts.

Not news here, we know our QB play has been bad for long stretches and dampened by drops at other times.

RE: Looking at NMSU
The stat that stands out is that NMSU is dead last in FBS in rushing D...not even close. next to last is W. Michigan who is about 70 yds/game better.

This will be the game Ross, Dillard, Davis (and hopefully DJ too)...all get some big gashing runs. Expect to see lots of work up-front w/ OL to see them re-establish dominance.

Is Brandon Hamilton redshirting this season? Not that we need him but I'm a little curious why he hasn't seen the field this season. I thought he looked decent as a true freshman last year.

Hamilton was dinged up and is redshirting. That's why the redshirt was pulled off Davis.

Wonder if/when last time Rice opened as a 3TD favorite on the road? Any historians out there?

NMSU sounds really bad. Which makes this a must win. Unless we want to hear endless berating of staff and team. Hopefully it's a big win for the Owls. The alternative is too demoralizing to face.

For those interested in more on NMSU..good summary of their first half of season, team, etc. Looks like they have their own QB controversy and we could see the young frosh this week. They did have bye week this week to get healthy and prepare so will take more than just getting off-the-bus for a W.

uh oh. My Mom's house fell victim to an inverse flood about 18 months ago. Heavy rains caused the sewer to back up and flood the house from below. Overall damage was probably over 70k, factoring in the loss of resale value. I don't think insurance paid out much, and there was little recourse through the city. The lawyers she called didn't offer much hope, either. She had planned to move to an apartment/retirement housing, and this kind of cemented the timeframe.

I'm sorry to hear that. I don't know what I would do if my insurance wasn't paying. I have to look at the positives. I'm getting a brand new kitchen.. cabinets and all for only my deductible. I plan on selling soon anyway. House is too big and my last baby (Phillip) will be on his own soon.

Possibly the first game of the 1989 season when we played SMU in its first game coming off the death penalty (we won 35-6). We had the nation's longest losing streak entering that game as I recall (18 games) so maybe the point spread wasn't that much (and maybe there wasn't even a point spread on the game because it was tough to figure out what SMU had as a team that season).

If I recall correctly, we were only favored by 6 that game. We were pretty bad coming into that one.

We will try and bring back a win for you this weekend. Sorry to hear of the house problems when you have the furlough issue to deal with.

Sorry to hear about that. As a fellow furloughee, brutal timing from a financial perspective, but having a little extra time to deal with the ramifications might actually be a benefit if we get back-pay. Good luck though, even with good insurance coverage, finding contractors and everything else is a big pain.

As much as I feel the government is doing too much and too big a part of our economy, it's folks like you two that suffer from the pettiness of national politics. I'm sorry about you house, but thank goodness the insurance will cover it.
