RE: ECU Releases 2014 Baseball Schedule
He can schedule "lighter" all he wants. Didn't work against........

Liberty
Monmouth
Campbell
ODU
Jacksonville
UNC Wilmington
William & Mary
High Point
All worthy opponents, but for the most part, opponents the Pirates would "normally" win against.

The problem isn't the schedule or the talent we've had.............its BG, plain and simple. Unless the Pirates get into a regional (at a minimum), I'd expect him to be gone at the end of the season.

I hope they do well for the sake of the players, the fans and the university.

The slate features 18 games against teams that earned a bit to the 2013 regional, 25 against teams with 35+ wins, and 14 that finished ranked in the national polls.

I'm not sure about a lot of those teams, but doesn't UNCW usually have a solid program? I know W&M finished the season ranked and won a game in the tournament (falling to NCSU, eventually). Those losses aren't all that bad.

They don't play UAB either. With 13 schools (UNT doesn't have baseball Yet) playing in C-USA this year, they are playing 10 C-USA series which means that you won't play 2 schools. I'm interested to see which 2 USM doesn't play this year.

RE: ECU Releases 2014 Baseball Schedule
10 C-USA series which means 1 less non conference weekend.

The OOC looks fine.....the UMBC series is our "off weekend" from conference play, so finding a higher quality opponent to play that weekend is extremely hard considering conference play is going on around the country. We have ended the west coast trips I believe so that explains no more UCLA, Pepperdine, and Fullerton. We have mid week home and homes with both NCSUx and Cheaters in the same season.....that's sorta rare as we have been playing Cheaters every other year. Don't believe we've had Michigan and Maryland for weekend series in the past; instead they have come to the Keith LeClair Classic.....so instead we have Ohio State, who has been here before and has had solid programs in the past, and Pittsburgh, whom I know nothing about, and Western Kentucky, who has been an ok Sun Belt program I think. Typical in state mid weeks like VCU and High Point and UNC-G and UNC-W and Campbell...nothing new about that. We always play those schools mid week.

We need to win the mid week games.....we need to beat those teams.....

and of course UVA on the road will be a challenging early season battle. They are willing to play us home and home in weekend series, hence why they're appearing on our schedule now for several seasons.

No slight intended against any of those teams (why I mentioned all "worthy" opponents), but you can't factor how they did last season, when the schedule was put together the year before that (2011).

Example of 2011 standings

Campbell was 17-37 No postseason
Liberty 35-24 No postseason
High Point 24-32 No postseason
UNC-W 31-28 No postseason
William/Mary 26-29 No postseason
ODU 30-26 No postseason
Jacksonville 37-24 Regional (won a game)
Monmouth 36-19 No postseason (good record though)

Not bad at all , but only one of those schools had gone to a regional, so this was probably considered when putting together the 2012 schedule, hence the point of the OP. My main point is not so much the competition that is being scheduled, more than our HC needs to step it up and if he thinks scheduling "down" is gonna help, he's wrong if he can't manage games effectively.
