RE: Week 7 - Kent State @ Ball State
Having Melchiori getting hurt didn't help as we missed a FG that would have left the game tied with the late BSU TD! However, I thought that our ole pass defense didn't help us any. They beat us on deep balls but that Snead is the real deal. Before the game I wondered if we could even be close in this game, but afterward I felt that we could have and probably should have won it.

When you need just 1 and have a guy like Durham it's fairly obvious how you're going to try and get it. That doesn't mean you need to take the element of surprise out of it by stacking the offense all in and allow the D to jam accordingly, putting 22 players inside a tight box. You don't need to stack a triple I formation, there is way too much congestion there, guys are just getting in the way. Split the ends out, put Archer in the slot, hell I'd even suggest using Rosie Nix as lead blocker for Durham, run some motion, anything over what we tried. That was embarrassing and cost us a W.

I've always loved the QB bootleg in that type of situation or a drag route to the TE over the middle. We definitely have the QB who can run the bootleg and/or throw that pass.

Where was Goode and TEs yesterday?

List of injuries/kicked off of team/retired between last season and now:
Dri Archer, ankle, missed a few games
Pat McShane, knee, missed a few games
Nate Terhune, broken leg, missed a few games
Calvin Tiggle, knee, missed all of the games so far
Kyle Payton, heart murmurs, will entire season
Chris Fairchild, ankle, been in/out or missed games
Rosie Nix, back/shoulder, hasn't missed any games, but hasn't been 100%
Anthony Melchiori, hamstring, missed 2nd/3rd/4th quarters of Ball State
Tyler Arend, knees, forced to quit football because of it
Chevin Meadows, undisclosed, no longer with team
Robert Kearney, knees, forced to quit football because of it
Richard Gray, sitting out this year because of academics

Gray is really missed on the defense but he needs to perform in the classroom and not feel that he should get a free pass, per a family member of mine who taught one of his spring classes......

Hey, I too missed Goode and our TEs!

Generally, I like our play calling, but that series was just plain dumb. We had that game and really gave it away. I may not recover.

You must not have watched the MAC championship because that hurt more than any other game I've watched. This loss does compare though.

Meadows wasn't on the team for the 2012 season. Andre Parker was kicked off the team. JJ Sanders quit the team. Dontavious Colson was kicked off the team. Denzell Burton put a frat boy in the hospital and got kicked off the team. Pretty sure Kearney isn't on the team because of a different reason than his knees.

I didn't mention Sanders, Parker, Colson, & Burton as none of them would have been on the 2 deep this year. All of the guys I mentioned above would have been on the 2 deep, which goes to my point of thin depth hurting Kent State this year with all of the injuries thus far. I was told by the Director of Football Operations that Kearney quit football because of his knees. Thanks for the info on why the guys aren't on the team any longer.

Kearney currently plays for Winston-Salem State. I think he was kicked off

I think you both are spot on about this. I don't think many on this board saw that goal line offensive series as if they did, they'd be as befuddled as we are. A fake to Durham up the middle and Reardon likely walks in around the end. If I'm Brian Rock, no way I run the Durham up the middle 3 straight times. My guess is that he's kicking himself in the pants over those three play calls.

I imagine Sanders would be getting significant playing time if he were still around because he saw the field a few times last year. I bet all three linebackers who aren't on the team would all be playing considering our lack of depth.
