Yeah. Out of 120+ teams, there are probably about 60-70 worse than Tenn and 80-90 worse than VT....01-wingedeagle

You took my post too seriously. I don't mean as far as awful football teams performance wise, I mean as far as teams that make you want to puke when you hear their name.

Plenty of VT and Vols fans would beg to differ. Won't be surprised at all to see them shatter Michigan's record, although 150-160k might be a tall order.

Will likely set the record for worst traffic after an NCAA game. Bristol traffic is a nightmare.

I wonder if the novelty of this idea is causing folks to overlook a lot of the obstacles that could end up causing a lot of issues surrounding the game?

This. Although it has allegedly gotten better. I am guessing they will use the same shuttle system they use for the race, so that may make a difference.

I think it is a great idea. I first heard about it several years ago when I was selling land on Norris Lake and Watts Bar Lake. It is an instant classic. ACC vs SEC. Equidistant for the schools. It would sell out. Perfect NASCAR facility to do this. Everything is right about it. It needs to be at the beginning of a season before both teams start losing, though.

I imagine the tailgating scene there would be obscene. If available, I would consider attending. Mostly because my VPI&SU alum friend has a family tie to UT & he's all over this. Been clamoring for this game @ Bristol for over 5 years now. I just think both fanbases will try to pull out all the stops at the tailgate. Yum.

It would be amazing except for the fact that it would be all Tech and UT fans...

I think there would be non-football people there as well given a party of that size. The place would be a zoo. I don't know how you could reasonably provide security for 160,000 fans. Maybe it happens with NASCAR all the time I don't know.

Yup. That's the drawback. Although, I'm not afraid of hanging out with UT fans. VPI&SU fans are usually just sheeple anyways, so I can ignore them pretty well. The big draw for me is that you're going to get that NASCAR element just because it's at Bristol. That's what's going to make the tailgating awesome. NASCAR PEOPLE.

Yea, I would imagine Bruton will run his normal race security stuff.

I fully anticipate a sell out and wonder if they will try and put temporary seating on the track to try and pack more in.

I would guess there's the potential to have at least 180,000 tickets for sale.

I am trying to imagine the field set up. Would you suspect that the game would just be played in the infield? If so, I can imagine some pretty terrible sight lines throughout the stadium. Might be better off going to the tailgate pre-game then watching the game at a sports bar.

Ha, yep. All I care about is the tailgate. After that, I'll be very disinterested.

I had lunch with a UT fan today. We both agreed sight lines will be awful. Plus, there's a tower in the middle of the infield. Plus, they will have to set up temporary locker rooms somewhere in the infield. I think that there are big screens on the top of the monitors and I'm sure that's where most will watch the game even in the stadium. It will be all about the atmosphere.

Can you imagine the people watching possibilities of combining NASCAR and VT? More jean shorts and less teeth than I ever thought possible.

Well, I won 3 Rolex's in my days in the land business. Was Director of Sales for two different national land development companies. Worked for a boss like Alec Baldwin! I trained all of the sales reps and ran large sales events. It was a good run. But, I didn't act like Baldwin.

Tech fans play horseshoes outside Bristol motor speedway on the most meaningful football night in school history

I agree with the earlier post that a sprint cup series nascar race at the same time as the football game would be beyond cool. Now if they can just get Duck Dynasty to make a ceremonial cameo to wave the starting flag, we'll be all set.
Redneck Heaven. 99% of the crowd would've never went to either school. Walmart's in the area would make a fortune on the merchandise.
